World of Warcraft: Shadowlands brings a ton of new content for players to enjoy, with entirely new zones, dungeons, and more to pad out adventuring time throughout the game. Piled in with this new content is a healthy helping of new mounts, creatures, and items. The Hairy Egg is one mysterious item, and figuring out what to do with it might take some time, but it does have a purpose.

While journeying in Maldraxxus, players might have received a Hairy Egg item from a Strange Growth in Forgotten Wounds. Eggs aren't necessarily a new item in World of Warcraft, though the Hairy Egg is a bit of a special case. Players don't need to open the item, rather, all they have to do is wait for it to hatch.

After three real-world days, the Hairy Egg will hatch into a Bloodlouse Larva. The Bloodlouse Larva is a summonable companion, expanding the player's collection. It isn't an exceptionally rare creature, though it does fit in well with the general look and tone of Maldraxxus, so it might be a good friend to have tag along while exploring the zone, at least for players that don't have better companions to bring along.

That's really all there is to the Hairy Egg. Players don't need to do anything other than wait out the three days, then they're all set to go. The item binds when picked up, so players are essentially stuck with it unless they want to destroy it. The three-day wait is a decent chunk of time, but there are certainly more difficult companions and mounts to unlock in World of Warcraft.

Shadowlands has brought a ton of new unlockable items to the table, which should keep players occupied for quite some time. Plus, new content will continue to roll out, especially with the launch of the new raid, so players should have quite a bit to look forward to in the future. Of course, that will come with its own set of unique challenges to figure out.

In the meantime, players just need to focus on hitting World of Warcraft's new level cap and raising their item level in preparation for the raid. Both of those take a decent time investment, but with everything new that Shadowlands is bringing to the table, the investment definitely seems worth it, if anything, just to see how the story unfolds in the future.

World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
