World of Warcraft has nearly 1,500 collectible pets in total. The Shadowlands expansion introduced 128 new battle pets and 28 combat pets. Even in 2021, there are still a few collectible pets that have yet to be found, and others that are incredibly rare.

This list includes the rare battle pets that only a small percentage of players have been fortunate enough to acquire. Below are the most uncommon pets in Shadowlands, and where we think you can find them.

8 Courage

The flying battle pet has somehow eluded WoW players for several months. There have been rumblings that Courage has been spotted in an auction house, but there is no concrete evidence of where the battle pet can be found. Speculation in the community is that the pet may be a world drop.

There are two other possibilities. Courage could be acquired the same way as his sister the Larion Pouncer by summoning Eliminator Sotiros and Larionrider Orstus in the Citadel of Loyalty, Bastion. However, it could also be a rare drop while completing one of the Bastion instances on courage difficulty, such as the Path of Ascension. The color tones do match Kalisthene. For now, gamers will only be able to get the battle pet from the auction house, if it is ever found.

7 Devoured Wader

Only 624 players have been able to find the Devoured Wader on Bastion. There are few, if any, Devoured Waders in auction houses based on the wow-pets tracking system. One player named Mystynmystyn claims that the pet can be found during Swelling Tear events that occur randomly throughout Bastion.

A portal will appear with an Elite enemy, and players will receive one of three rare items. Even if this is true, players still have no idea where to look for the special events. Gamers that choose to believe Mystynmystyn should look out for portals while traversing Bastion.

6 Decaying Mawrat

Just over 2% of players have been able to collect the Decaying Mawrat. The ugly and apparently odorous creature has been spotted in two locations. The first is from the Fallen Adventurer's Cache dropped by the Odalrik in the Maw on Torghast (38.6, 28.8). Others have reported the battle pet dropping from a Ratgusher at Desolate Hollow in the Maw. Gamers should look in these two locations for the Mawrat.

5 Undying Death Roach

Odalrik The Maw Shadowlands

The Undying Death Roach is just as uncommon as the Mawrat. A small YouTuber by the name of Sipder found the critter in the Fallen Adventurer's Cache described above. It is unclear if there are other ways to get the pet. Players should defeat Odalrik to have a chance of unlocking the pet. Odalrik spawns every five to ten minutes, but can only be looted once a day.

4 Gilded Wader

The Gilded Wader is just as rare as the Devoured Wader, with only .3 percent of the community finding the bird in Shadowlands. There are varying claims about where to find the pet, but all seem to be similar. The pet will drop from a number of rare chests in Revendreth, Maldraxxus, and Bastion. The best guidance for players is to open rare chests and pray this avian pet drops.

3 Char

Ember Court Shadowlands (1)

Apparently, the only way to get char is to put out fires during the Ember Court Run on Revendreth using Anima Infused Water. This makes sense based on the battle pet's name. While there is no solid proof that this method will work, it is the only evidence available. Information on Char is courtesy of dunderman1 on the WoW forums. Gamers will need to put their trust in Dunderman1 and pray for a lucky spawn to get the pet.

2 Bound Lightspawn

Bound Lightspawn Shadowlands (1)

The Bound Lightspawn is a rare 4% drop that also drops from Amalgamation of Light, a rare mob that appears in the Ember Ward in Revendreth. Gamers will have to hope they can spawn the Amalgamation of Light enough times to find this elemental pet. The Amalgamation is located at (25.6, 48.6), but the mob is commonly killed and players will have to wait for it to respawn.

After traveling to the location, gamers should look for three mirrors. If there are no mirrors, it means the Amalgamation has been killed and the respawn timer has begun. If the three mirrors are intact, gamers must disable the three mirror traps to summon the mob. Players actively seeking this pet will have to farm patiently, as there is no guarantee that the Bound Lightspwan will drop.

1 Violet Dredwing Pup

The small bat is an extremely rare drop in four different locations, which are listed below:

  • Tier three of the Ember Court in Revendreth
  • Tier two of Queen's Conservatory in Ardenweald
  • Tier one of the Path of Ascension in Bastion
  • Tier one of the Abomination Factory in Maldraxxus

The Ember Court seems to be a good location to find many of the rare pets in Shadowlands. Players should set out to find this mysterious creature in the Ember Court. Hopefully, one of the rare battle pets will drop.
