Players have really taken to World of Warcraft: Shadowlands more than any recent expansion in the game. According to Activision Blizzard, Shadowlands is the fastest-selling PC game of all time.

Considering how much content is introduced by World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, this is not all that surprising. There's a lot for players to experience once they hit maximum level, including a more tightly focused story. The new systems introduced add interesting gameplay options, and players can wield more power than ever. With everything that has been added though, there are a few things that seem to have gone missing in the scuffle. Some players have noticed an absence of Bonus Rolls, prompting the question of whether they are gone for good.

The Usefulness of Bonus Rolls

Bonus Rolls help players get loot they need from Raid bosses by rolling on their loot table again. Essentially, a player spends the appropriate resource, and in exchange gets another piece of loot from the boss. The loot roll is weighed to be useful for the players' build, making Bonus Rolls an invaluable tool. Players can only take on Raid bosses like Sun King's Salvation every so often, so getting as much loot as possible is important. All of this leads to the question: are Bonus Rolls still available in Shadowlands?

Shadowlands The Great Vault Location

Bonus Rolls in Shadowlands

Bonus Rolls have been completely removed with the Shadowlands expansion, removing the ability to roll twice on Boss loot tables. Blizzard explained in a post that this is because of the addition of the Great VaultShadowlands' Great Vault is a chest that allows players to get powerful loot once a week, and according to Blizzard its consistency and options for a greater selection fill in the gap left by the Bonus Roll's absence.

How the Great Vault Works

If Bonus Rolls have been replaced by the Great Vault, players should know how it works. There are three task categories in the Great Vault that players can fill with potential loot at the end of the week. These are: Defeating Castle Nathria Raid Bosses, Completing Mythic Keystone Dungeons, and earning Honor from PvP. There are three milestones players can reach in each of these categories, each providing a gear option to choose at the end of the week for a total of nine items. Defeating World Bosses will not contribute to the Vault. Keep in mind that out of these potential nine options, only one can actually be chosen per week.

What this will mean for the future of Shadowlands and World of Warcraft in general is not completely clear. It could turn out to be good, or it could turn out to be a bad call on Blizzard's part. It will likely make creating Legendary Armor more important, since players have direct control over that.
