The Battle for Azeroth is over, the war before the Horde and Alliance have been put on hold, and 8.3 is here to bring an end to the latest World of Warcraft expansion's main narrative arc. Now that the Visions of N'Zoth raid is open players are reaching the final in-game cinematic cutscene and finding out how the story ends and whether or not it helps set up the coming Shadowlands content.

World of Warcraft's current expansion has been a bit of a rocky ride. The content was pitched as a return to faction conflict with a secret hidden villain pulling the strings, but it took a very long time to get to that twist. The vast majority of BfA content kept the focus on Horde versus Alliance until the war ended very recently, but the last story arc's focus on the old god's may not provide quite the conclusion that lore-heads were hoping for.

So far the new content added in Visions of N'Zoth has been quite popular, but the WoW community on Reddit and WoWhead seem to be disappointed with the conclusion that comes at the end of the newly released raid. Players who haven't completed the raid yet and want to avoid spoilers should stop reading here and not watch the cinematic...

The final in-game cutscene keeps the focus on the player character, which means that it is not a true cinematic and may not end up feeling as impactful or high quality as many of the Saurfang and Sylvanas scenes that came before it. As expected, the hero's Heart of Azeroth is critical to weakening N'Zoth for a final blow, which causes the old god to explode in pretty grand fashion.

There is also an epilogue cutscene that takes place after players turn in the quest to kill N'Zoth. This one keeps the focus on the player character as well...

Surprisingly, the cutscene doesn't really do much to setup Shadowlands and properly wrap up the BfA era. If Blizzard hadn't already confirmed that there will not be a 8.3.5, this likely wouldn't feel like such a big deal. There is sure to be a big pre-Shadowlands patch that sets things up, but some fans feel that in general the final act of this expansion feels a little disconnected from both the content leading up to it and the content that will follow.
