At BlizzCon 2015, Blizzard reveal their new cinematic trailer for the latest World of Warcraft expansion Legion, alongside the game's 2016 release date.
The next expansion for Blizzard's popular MMO, World of Warcraft is set for a summer 2016 release date. Blizzard revealed this information, as well as a cinematic trailer for the new expansion 'Legion', yesterday during the BlizzCon 2015 opening ceremonies.
Legion, which will be the game's sixth expansion, is currently available to pre-order online. Purchasing the expansion before release will allow players to receive early access to the new Diablo-inspired Demon Hunter class that the expansion brings to the game. The pre-order also grants one immediate character boost to level 100 so that players can immediately jump into playing World of Warcraft: Legion, when it releases.
Many details about the new expansion were released with Legion's expansion reveal trailer, which is loaded with details and gameplay from the newest addition to the World of Warcraft franchise. As usual, the new expansion raises the level cap higher, bringing the maximum up from level 100 to level 110, allowing existing players to further develop their existing characters as they gain more experience.
Legion will bring with it new areas to discover and will see players exploring the new continent, The Broken Isles. According to Blizzard, it will also implement a reworked player-versus-player honor system as well as the usual array of new World Bosses, Dungeons and Raids. Lastly, a range of new artifact weapons are being introduced to the game, which will allow players to customize their legendary weapons.
Blizzard's presentation of World of Warcraft: Legion at BlizzCon 2015 was one that was eagerly awaited by fans of the game and an accidental early schedule release saw the Legion presentation filling the first slot, immediately following the opening ceremony. Whilst the last expansion, Warlords of Draenor, released just under a year ago, Blizzard have stated that they wish to move towards releasing more frequent expansions for the ever-popular MMO.
Summer 2016 will be an exciting time for World of Warcraft players as the upcoming Warcraft movie will be released on June 10th in the US. The movie, which saw a full trailer released yesterday, is based on the iconic franchise of Blizzard games and it seems extremely likely that it will inspire a rise in Legion players, both new and returning. Hopefully, summer will breathe new life into the game which, whilst still extremely profitable, is not nearly as populated today as it was 10 years ago.
World of Warcraft: Legion will be released in summer 2016. Players looking to pre-order the expansion can do so here.
