The Great Vault, the main source of weekly guaranteed loot in World of Warcraft, is loosening up some of its requirements in Dragonflight. Loot acquisition has changed wildly over the years in World of Warcraft, and one of the first steps Blizzard took in eliminating player reliance on luck to win their gear was by introducing Badges of Justice in The Burning Crusade. The Great Vault is a distant evolution of this concept in that it allows players to earn loot at the end of every week – but where it differs from the badges, emblems, and valor points of the past – is that it offers limited possibility for players to target a specific piece of loot.

Though not perfect by any means, the Great Vault has been an upgrade over the weekly chests of Legion and Battle for Azeroth. Dragonflight continues to improve upon the concept even further while maintaining the format introduced in Shadowlands and refined over the course of its patches. Moreover, Mythic dungeon rewards in Dragonflight's Great Vault have had their item levels increased, allowing players who are disinterested in World of Warcraft's raiding scene to earn a dungeon equivalent to some of the best loot the game has to offer.

Starting with Dragonflight, World of Warcraft players will no longer need complete 10 Mythic Dungeons or defeat 10 Raid Bosses to get the most out of their Great Vault every week. Following the trend that started with Shadowlands Season 4, the requirements to cap one's Great Vault has been further reduced. Compared to Shadowlands at launch, players will only need 6 Raid Bosses and 8 Mythic Dungeons in Dragonflight to maximize their PvE rewards. Furthermore, PvP players will only need to earn 5000 Honor from Rated Battlegrounds and Arena to hit all three milestones for the week.

The consensus in the community has been positive thus far, as many believe this change to be a step in the right direction. Not every World of Warcraft player has the time to fully clear raids or complete a dozen high-level keystone dungeons with their friends, and the Great Vault in Dragonflight is certainly seeking to accommodate those players.

Though the Great Vault is still subject to the arbitrary nature of a random roll deciding the loot that it spits out to players every week, at least the new system will allow more players to have six options to choose from now that they're more easily obtainable. Mythic Keystone Dungeons in Dragonflight will unlock on December 12 alongside the first raid, Vault of the Incarnates, at which time players will be able to start earning the new rewards from the Great Vault in Valdrakken.

World of Warcraft is available on PC. Dragonflight launches on November 28.
