World of Warcraft recently announced the fantastic Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm mount will be going away with the launch of Dragonflight. This means World of Warcraft players have just under two months to earn the chilling mount before Dragonflight’s launch on November 28.

The Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm is a crossover promotion between World of Warcraft and Wrath of the Lich King Classic. This mount can be earned for retail World of Warcraft accounts by completing the Death Knight starting experience in Wrath of the Lich King Classic.

With the recent launch date announcement, however, World of Warcraft warned players the special promotion would be going away with Dragonflight's release on November 28. Players interested in earning the mount simply need to log in and make a Death Knight in Wrath of the Lich King Classic. Once players complete the “Warchief’s Blessing” or “Where Kings Walk” quests, the Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm will be added to their retail World of Warcraft mount collection.

The undead proto-dragon mount itself is a perfect addition to any World of Warcraft mount collection–especially for Forsaken characters or Frost Death Knights–and is the perfect fusion of elements between Wrath of the Lich King Classic and Dragonflight. The Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm is unfortunately not a Dragonriding mount right now, though it could become one later. Though the mount could become available again in future promotions or in the cash shop, players should unlock it now while they have the chance, rather than risk losing out forever.

Players were surprised and delighted by the Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm mount. The mount's textures and animations are of exceptional quality, and getting it only takes an hour or two. The Death Knight starting experience is one of the most memorable starting zones in World of Warcraft history, and sets the stage for other such experiences like Exile’s Reach and the dracthyr Evoker’s Forbidden Reach in Dragonflight, so few players complained about having to do it one more time.

That said, many players are upset that the mount is a limited-time offer. These exclusive offers manipulate players with the fear of missing out–colloquially called FOMO–and have been used by World of Warcraft frequently in the past, much to the disdain of its player base. It would take nothing to allow this mount to become a permanent addition to World of Warcraft, or at least let it last until Wrath of the Lich King Classic's run is over. While player outcry may convince World of Warcraft to extend the promotion beyond Dragonflight’s launch, fans who want a Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm of their own should make sure to get it now just in case.

World of Warcraft is available on PC. Dragonflight launches on November 28.
