This weekend, returning World of Warcraft players that have not tried the Dragonflight expansion can give it a try for a limited time, as the free trial has returned to Azeroth. The news came as World of Warcraft prepares for their upcoming content updates that will see players return to The Forbidden Reach and explore dark places hidden underneath the Dragon Isles. On March 21, World of Warcraft Patch 10.0.7 will go live, after several weeks of testing on the public test realm (PTR). Some of the features included with the update range from The Forbidden Reach zone, class balance updates across the board, and the addition of Goblin, Lightforged Draenei, and Worgen monks. But, before returning players can dive in and see those features for themselves, the free trial will provide a way to convince them to resubscribe to the game and try the Dragonflight expansion for at least a little while.RELATED: World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Will Have No Seasonal Affix in Mythic Season 2However, World of Warcraft players that want to try Dragonflight during the free trial will have until 11:59 PM Pacific on Sunday, March 12 to experience it. During the free trial, players can create a Dracthyr Evoker and experience their story. All classes can start the first batch of level 60 quests in the Dragon Isles. In addition, all editions of Dragonflight are 20% off on the Blizzard Shop through March 15. This means that the Base edition of Dragonflight will start at $39.99 USD for the next few days. Aside from purchasing the Epic edition, upgrading to Dragonflight does not include additional game time, so players that want to return to the game must bear that in mind.

In addition to leveling a Dracthyr Evoker and exploring the Dragon Isles, returning players will also have a chance to experience Dragonriding, which has proven to be among the top features that World of Warcraft players enjoy taking part in. With races, flight challenges, and cosmetic rewards to earn, World of Warcraft players still enjoy flying around the Dragon Isles on their very own dragon. With new Dragonriding customization options coming in both Patch 10.0.7 and Patch 10.1, the free trial of Dragonflight should provide a hook for players to take the plunge back into World of Warcraft and see what has changed.

While Dragonflight's sales numbers have not measured up to past expansions, including the controversial Shadowlands that saw many players quit World of Warcraft, the features of Dragonflight and the roadmap that Blizzard has laid out for 2023 and beyond have been a welcome change. Only time will tell what impact the free trial of Dragonflight will have in the near future.

World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
