After months of anticipation, the Dragonflight expansion is now live on World of Warcraft’s retail servers. Though many players had doubts that World of Warcraft would be ready to launch Dragonflight by the end of the year, the expansion’s launch has arrived without any delays.World of Warcraft: Dragonflight takes players to the Dragon Isles–the ancestral homeland of the dragons and prison of the Primal Incarnates. Players can explore the new zones of Dragonflight astride customizable Dragonriding mounts, experiment with a revamped crafting system, and play the new dracthyr Evoker class.RELATED: World of Warcraft Fan Shares Theory on Next Playable Horde Allied RaceDragonflight increases the level cap to 70, granting players 10 more points to flesh out their builds using the revamped Talent Trees in World of Warcraft. To level beyond 60, make an Evoker, and explore the Dragon Isles, players must first purchase and register Dragonflight. However, Shadowlands is now included in the base subscription cost for World of Warcraft, so players can experience the previous expansion without owning Dragonflight.

The launch of Dragonflight heralds the end of the Shadowlands era of World of Warcraft. This launch has also made several Shadowlands rewards unobtainable in-game for the time being, such as the Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm from Wrath of the Lich King Classic or Jigglesworth Sr. from the Fated Season 4 raids. Though the full launch also spells an end for the Primal Storms pre-patch event, players who missed out on its rewards can earn some of them when the event repeats during Dragonflight.

The players amassed at the Dragon Isles zeppelin towers and docks for some time before launch are an indication of how excited players are for Dragonflight. Like any MMO expansion launch, the opening days of Dragonflight may experience some log in and population problems. Players should remember to be patient while the servers stabilize from the inevitable influx of players rushing to the Dragon Isles.

Some players still have reservations about Dragonflight’s release, however. Considering the expansion was announced in early 2022, many wonder if its release in the same year is too soon. Balance issues and bugs discovered in the Dragonflight beta inspired worry that World of Warcraft might be rushing, and may release an unfinished product. Nevertheless, World of Warcraft has stated development for Dragonflight has been according to schedule and that it is more than ready for the new expansion. Players can dive into the Dragon Isles now to see what is in store for them, and to decide if World of Warcraft’s newest expansion can meet their expectations.
