There's no shortage of MMOs in the year 2022, with just about every big IP throwing their hat in the ring. From Star Wars: The Old Republic, to Star Trek Online, the modern MMO market is flooded with big names, but there's one title that's managed to stand its ground, remaining at the very top of the mountain since the very dawn of the genre: World of Warcraft.

Despite releasing nearly two decades ago, World of Warcraft is still the most played MMO on the planet, with an estimated 120 million active players at the time of writing. On any given day, World of Warcraft's servers are estimated to hold over one million players concurrently, which is no small feat. One of the keys to World of Warcraft's success has been a consistent stream of major expansions that release every two years or so, keeping a constant flow of new content coming in for veteran players. World of Warcraft is set to receive its next expansion, titled Dragonflight, in December of this year, and it's bringing a whole host of new mechanics, including the new Crafting Orders system.

Along with a slew of other tweaks and changes, World of Warcraft's Dragonflight expansion is going to be changing up the game's Profession system quite a bit. Crafting Specializations, which allow players to craft specific, higher-quality gear, is making a comeback, and a plethora of new Profession Gear, specifically designed to aid the player during their crafting, are heading to the game. A brand-new Profession hub is opening up in Valdrakken in the Dragon Isles, where some Crafting Tables will appear, and a new Item Quality feature will be introduced.

On top of all that, a brand-new system called "Crafting Orders" is being introduced with World of Warcraft Dragonflight. To boil it down, Crafting Orders is a new system that lets a player commission someone to craft something for them. The big benefit of this is that players can now obtain rare items that were otherwise locked behind a different Profession or Specialization tree. Similarly, this means that players will be able to purchase items without having the crafting materials needed to create it.

To access this new system, players simply need to head to the new Crafting Orders tab, scroll through the expansive recipe list, and select the item they'd like to commission. Players will then either meet with their chosen crafter one-on-one or go through an NPC, who takes the commission to the auction house, where players bid on the commission. To make the asking price lower, players can provide their own crafting materials as well. Any notes, or any extra tips the player wants to send, can all be done through the new Crafting Orders interface.

Once the crafter has received the commission, they'll be given the prompt to fill in any missing ingredients, add their own reagents if they desire, and craft the item. Once it's been crafted, the item will be immediately sent to the buyer directly via World of Warcraft's mail system. However, crafters should be aware that the Artisan's Consortium does take a small fee from each item that's crafted, so players will need to take this into consideration when bartering prices.

World of Warcraft is available now on PC. The Dragonflight expansion is set to launch later this year.
