World of Warcraft Dragonflight is jam-packed with new features and re-imagined evergreen system, so it's no surprise the expansion is being considered the kickoff to the third era of WoW. In addition to Dragon riding and a total reinvention of the Talent system, players also have enough customization options to spend hours in the dressing room as they make their Dracthyr characters and dragon riding mounts their own.
Customization isn't totally new to World of Warcraft, but there's no denying that Dragonflight takes things to another level. The customization that players can enjoy with the new class/race combo (and their new mount) offers the chance to add a ton of personality to their character and some players are already wondering if some older race/classes could potentially enjoy this level of customization in the near future... Including Balance Druids!
Game Rant recently had the chance to sit down with WoW Dragonflight Associate Game Director Jeremy Feasel and Lead Software Engineer May Flores Garcia as part of a roundtable interview. During the conversation, the chat turned towards future customization options and what Blizzard might have lined up next to accompany all the great customization options for the Dracthyr Evokers and the dragon riding mounts...
Jeremy Feasel: "I think customization is one of those things where as we started adding it to existing races and classes, players just really responded positively. And that’s awesome to see. We went completely crazy with the Dracthyr. The number of options available with the Dracthyr and the Evoker are up into the multiple levels of trillions. And I think players have really responded to that. People have spent a good chunk of time in the dressing room making really cool Dracthyr and posting them all over social media and everything. That’s been awesome to see.
"And same thing with the dragon riding dragons. There’s four different body types to choose from and then within those there are 80 options. You can customize your horns, your saddle, your stripes, and all kinds of stuff. It’s the most customizable mount we’ve ever done. We really understand that this is something everyone has been responding to and enjoying. We look forward to more feedback and see what other things players are looking for. TBD on adding additional customization on existing player races, but we know it’s something people are really excited about. We will talk about that more in the future. And all the Boomkin players, we haven’t forgotten about you!"
Jeremy didn't commit to any kind of timeline for additional customization options, but it's clear that the dev team is listening carefully and is well aware that players are loving the extra options. As the expansion grows beyond the initial rollout, it will be very interesting to see if any additional options arrive for some of those older classes, races, and specs. We have our fingers crossed for all the Boomkin out there...
