In a recent build of the Dragonflight beta, World of Warcraft hiked up the health of players and damage enemies dealt. World of Warcraft made this change to balance the numbers on damage mitigation and healing as the maximum level increases in Dragonflight.

World of Warcraft players on the Dragonflight beta noticed a significant increase in their maximum health pools when they logged in. They also noticed enemies were hitting much harder than before. This is because World of Warcraft increased player stamina and creature damage by 40% at level 70 as a means of balancing endgame statistics.

This change was primarily done because healing in Dragonflight was too strong. World of Warcraft explained that it usually tried to maintain a steady increase of stats across all levels to maintain a consistent flow of progression. The new Dragonflight Talent Trees introduced a power increase for players, with potent mitigation and healing abilities which threatened to trivialize endgame battles. In order to combat this, monsters must be able to deal high spikes of damage–but this can in turn kill players before healers can react. World of Warcraft hopes the extra padding of health in conjunction with the increased damage will provide more wiggle room for both tanks and healers.

While the stat increase will serve mostly to balance PvE, PvP in World of Warcraft may be more significantly impacted by the recent change. Healing skills are rendered less effective by the health increases, making such builds less attractive in PvP game modes. To offset this, World of Warcraft may look at making adjustments, such as PvP trinket balances or tweaks to flat healing when compared to percentage healing spells.

Generally speaking, players are curious to see how the health and damage change will affect World of Warcraft. Players think the change will have positive effects, as it will still allow healers to feel impactful while bringing them in line to keep dungeons and raids in World of Warcraft interesting. Likewise, most players think the change will have positive effects on PvP, as the increased health totals make burst builds slightly less effective, leading to more dynamic fights.

On the other hand, some players are a little worried World of Warcraft is making such a seemingly large, widespread change this late in the game’s development. With Dragonflight’s launch in less than a month, a whopping 40% number adjustment seems like a lot. World of Warcraft still has a few weeks before the expansion launches, so hopefully beta testers can use that time to provide feedback on the stat adjustments.

World of Warcraft is available now for PC. Dragonflight launches on November 28.
