After World of Warcraft players finish their quests in The Waking Shores and Ohn'ahran Plains, they are sent off to Dragonflight's third zone: The Azure Span. This may be one of the prettiest zones that World of Warcraft has to offer, filled with snowy peaks, vast forests, and a frigid icy tundra. Tuskarr travel the land fishing and telling stories, and the Blue Dragonflight call it home. Its story is also not half-bad, with some pretty big implications for the future of the Dragonflights on Azeroth.

The main story of the Azure Span focuses on the Blue Dragonflight and Dragon Aspect Kalecgos' mission to revitalize it. They were once the protectors of Arcane Magic, but the flight has been separated ever since the fall of Deathwing during Cataclysm. Players venture into the Azure Span and work alongside iconic characters like Khadgar and Sindragosa to help ensure this battered flight has a future, safeguarding the mystical Arcane from the Primalists that wish to destroy it.

The Azure Archives

WoW The Azure Span

The first chapter of the Azure Span storyline sees the player meet up with blue Dragon Aspect Kalecgos to assist him in reclaiming the Azure Oathstone. Players head off to the Azure Archives where Kalecgos is hard at work discovering the whereabouts of the Oathstone. They encounter Primalists that want to destroy the Archives and stop the use of Arcane magic, but after beating them back alongside Khadgar and Kalecgos, the player is tasked with cleaning up the Azure Archive - which has sat dormant for centuries.

As the player cleans up the Azure Archive, a mysterious voice calls out looking for Malygos. Malygos was once the blue Dragon Aspect, but he succumbed to madness and was killed during Wrath of the Lich King. After players repair the Azure Archive, that mysterious voice is revealed to be Malygos' prime-consort Sindragosa. However, it is a simulacrum of Sindragosa, as the real Sindragosa died during the War of the Ancients.

The Iskaara Tuskarr

The second chapter of the story begins with Sindragosa sending the player off to repair ley lines across the Azure Span, which would allow them to recover the Azure Oathstone. Players meet up with the Tuskarr living in the zone, hopeful they can point the heroes of Azeroth in the direction of these ley lines. They meet up with the Iskaara Tuskaar Chieftain Brena, who agrees to help as long as the player is willing to assist the Tuskarr with a couple tasks.

The player makes funeral arrangements for their previous chieftan Poloniak, as Gnolls in the area had attacked the funeral caravan and must be stopped from causing further damage. As they beat back the Gnolls, the player discovers that something is causing the Gnolls to rot. Their decaying spreads out across the Azure Span, and the player must do everything they can to stop it. After they repair the ley line and stop the spread of decay, the player witnesses the funeral of Chieftain Poloniak.

Giving the Blue Dragonflight Back its Family

WoW Kalecgos

The final chapter of the Azure Span storyline sees Kalecgos realize it is time for the Blue Dragonflight to come back together. The Tuskarr help him realize that family is one of the most important parts of life, and that the Blue Dragonflight must thrive again. He summons the surviving members of the flight using the Azure Oathstone, but the main ley line is attacked by Primalists before they can arrive.

The player defends the ley line from Raszageth's forces with the help of Khadgar and Kalecgos. Kalecgos attacks Raszageth, and the player is forced to assist him in battling this powerful foe. Once they successfully stop the Primalists assault, the Blue Dragonflight finally answers Kalecgos' call. He is able to claim the Azure Oathstone and empower his newfound flight, and the player is sent to Thaldraszus to finish their Dragonflight journey.
