World of Warcraft Classic's launch has been extremely popular, to the point that servers and starting areas are overloaded with new players. It's not unlike World of Warcraft's original launch in 2004, in that regard. Due to the overpopulation of starting areas, World of Warcraft Classic players have started a wholesome trend. Instead of crowding around monsters required for quests, they're lining up and taking turns. The World of Warcraft Classic community is coming together.

It isn't just a single case, either. It isn't just Hogger in Elwynn Forest, who is legendary for holding back progress in the early days of World of Warcraft. It's happening across multiple servers, multiple zones, for multiple quests. Blizzard's servers for World of Warcraft Classic are being packed full and players are doing their best to make it a pleasant experience for everyone. Players just might end up waiting in line quite a bit more than they'd have expected.

The problem comes down to World of Warcraft Classic spawn rates for required monsters. Thousands of players are logging in and picking up early quests. These quests all require that players kill exactly the same Named Monster. Since there's only one of this monster, however, and it takes a bit of time to respawn, players can't all kill it at the same time. Forming a line makes it easy to figure whose "turn" it is to kill the monster. Players can then turn in the quest, pick up another quest, and then join the next line.

For players wanting to level in World of Warcraft Classic via questing, there are few other options at the moment. There are just too many players. As the population levels and spreads out through the world it should be much easier to find and kill quest mobs. Alternatively, players can grind levels by killing monsters or doing dungeons. Leveling this way is boring in its own way, of course.

Despite the lines, World of Warcraft players can at least rest easy knowing that they're having an authentic experience. Similar issues were prevalent in the early years of World of Warcraft, as well as other MMOs. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though. It may be an unintentional issue, but it's one that clearly encourages community-building at the same time. That there's a lack of similar situations in modern MMOs is more often a criticism than not. These lines in World of Warcraft Classic are a great reminder of what social gaming experiences are all about.
