Wordle is definitive proof that a game doesn’t need to be complicated to be fun or successful. Despite a less than seamless acquisition by the New York Times, the semi-social puzzle game continues to be massively popular.
In addition to sharing their scores, Wordle fans also like to pass around screenshots of unusual results. One player, for example, recently posted an image showing the unique way they got the correct answer twice. Anyone planning to explore the Wordle Archive should beware of spoilers for Wordle 244 from February 18th and 250 from February 24th.
Yesterday, Reddit user plsenjy shared a screenshot of their Wordle result from February 18th. It showed that they successfully guessed the word “DODGE” on the fifth attempt. Looking at the puzzle, the first thing that stands out is how plsenjy solved the Wordle in a very aesthetically pleasing way, with a green staircase of correct letters. Not only that, but they also guessed the word in a way that left a second “DODGE” running diagonally up the steps.

Unfortunately, Wordle doesn’t give players a bonus for getting the same word to appear twice, though it’s still impressive that someone managed to do so. Of course, Wordle players will always get the same kind of double result when their guesses take on a diagonal shape. However, it’s notable in that it would still be next to impossible to make this shape on purpose without already knowing the answer. Granted, with hundreds of thousands of people playing Wordle every day, it’s only natural that multiple people get similar results through random chance.
It’s also natural that, with so many Wordle players worldwide, people have stumbled across the answer in plenty of interesting or funny ways. This morning, another Reddit user showed how they found the answer to Thursday’s puzzle by describing the Roger from Seth MacFarlane’s animated sitcom American Dad! User CZeke started by guessing “ALIEN” on their first try. They then followed up with the words “SHORT” and “PUDGY” before landing on the correct answer, “BLOKE.” As CZeke pointed out, “Alien, short, pudgy bloke” is a decent physical description of the show’s hedonistic extraterrestrial.
Another recent post showed how the Wordle-inspired game Wordle Unlimited isn’t immune to wacky results. The correct answer was “ROSES,” with the player guessing “ROLES” on the first try. They then proceeded to fill their six attempts with every other “RO_ES” word they could think of. The results left him with a pair of green rectangles separated by a grey stripe down the middle. These examples are just a tiny sampling of the many wacky Wordle results.
