It is impossible to deny the rapid success of Wordle. The word game has taken the internet by storm, as players fight to keep their streaks alive by carefully guessing the Wordle word of the day. The game is popular enough to have been purchased by The New York Times, and countless copycat games have sprouted up. Most recently a Fortnite version of Wordle named Fortle has made an appearance, combining one of the most popular battle royales with perhaps the most popular literacy game.
Wordle clones are nothing new, as developers have created daily guessing games based on NFL players, video games like Destiny, movies, and more. Sometimes the Wordle-likes have nothing to do with spelling out a five-letter word, as there is even a music-based version that plays a few seconds of a song at a time. Fortnite has grown so much, and Epic has supported it with countless new pieces of content, that a word-based Fortnite game is possible.
The website Fortniteskin.com is known for being a helpful resource for all things Fortnite. The site has a constantly updated list of all the skins, emotes, pickaxes, and more from the battle royale. There is also a section that shows what content is on sale today, as well as the leaked Fortnite skins that players will soon be able to snag. The newest addition to the site is Fortle.
Every day the page updates with a new Fortnite word that players can try to guess. Just like its Wordle counterpart, Fortle requires players to input five-letter words. The twist, however, is that Fortnite-based words are also allowed. This means that today the answer could be Peely, the fan-favorite Banana skin. And tomorrow it could be Slick, the jazzy emote introduced in Season 7 back in 2019.
It is impressive that Fortnite is so filled with content that a five-letter Wordle clone could exist for it. The idea that it is only five letters certainly narrows the list of options, but it also helps that the same website that Fortle is on houses the entire library of the Fortnite content that can easily be used as a mini cheat sheet if needed. It is neat the inspiration that Wordle has provided. Developers have created bots that help the player guess properly, there is a history-based daily guessing game, and Wordle was even created inside of Minecraft. The simplistic but addictive nature of the game has thrust it into massive success, and the Fortnite version is the most recent example of this.
