Like the previous 299 Wordle puzzles of the day, today's word can be a big challenge to players both new and old. But in order to play this popular game, players will need to know the rules first. Here's a quick breakdown of how to play.
While there are loads of copycats, variations, and clones of Wordle, all the rules and hints in this article are about the original version which is now hosted on the New York Times games website. Back in February 2022, the NYT Games purchased Wordle from developer Josh Wardle, meaning that the NYT now hosts it. Once players get to the site, players then have to choose a starting Wordle word. It needs to be five letters long and a real English word. Then the letters of the starting word will change colors.
- Correct letters will turn green if they are in the right place in the word.
- Correct letters will turn yellow if they are in the wrong place in the word.
- Incorrect letters turn gray.
With these clues, players have a total of six tries to get to the correct answer. This makes Wordle a quick game to play once a day, so players only need to find a few minutes every day to keep up their Wordle playing streaks.
