As Venom: Let There Be Carnage edges closer to its premiere, some fans might be disappointed when they see Woody Harrelson without the wild hairstyle he had towards the end of the first movie. Not Harrelson though, as the actor discussed during a recent interview.
While the first Venom movie failed to find the same levels of critical reception that most Spider-Man films have received over the years, it did leave many with the promise of seeing Carnage, unarguably one of Marvel's most psychopathic villains. If early impressions are to be believed, Cletus Kasady and his symbiote buddy look just as fearsome as one might expect judging from Venom: Let There Be Carnage's latest teaser.
During a brief sitdown with Collider, Harrelson spoke about what first drew him to the Venom universe, with those things namely being the chance to work with director Ruben Fleischer and Tom Hardy, besides the obvious allure that any Marvel property has. Harrelson is also incredibly happy to ditch the Carrot Top look that he had in the first Venom, yet he also touched upon more serious topics, like what it takes to channel a character as deranged as Cletus Kasady.
The actor is currently working on an unrelated project and he also took the chance to praise director Andy Serkis for the kind of work he did with Let There Be Carnage, with the two having worked together in Planet of the Apes before. Harrelson has nothing but the utmost respect for Serkis’ magnificent work, so much so that he even pushed for Carnage to be voiced by Venom 2's director.
Even as movie theaters are starting to recover from the pandemic, Let There Be Carnage shouldn’t have too many issues performing well, commercially speaking, considering Venom was an absolute success at the box office. As far as the movie’s plot, early reviews have been a little mixed, with most critics pointing out that Let There Be Carnage is surely an improvement over the first film, although those who didn’t enjoy it will probably find little to love here.
An even more interesting aspect about the Venom character is when Sony will decide to put Eddie Brock and Peter Parker together on the same screen, given that Hardy was recently seen sporting a Spider-Man: No Way Home hat that could be spelling even more trouble for Parker in a not so distant future. For now, fans will have to settle for playing out Venom vs. Spider-Man on Fortnite.
