Safe to say at this point, people want to see Platinum Games revive its dormant superhero-themed action game The Wonderful 101 just as much as Platinum does. Just one day after it went live, the Kickstarter for The Wonderful 101 Remastered has long surpassed its original base goal of $50,000, having earned around $1.19 million in backer pledges as of this writing.

It’s an understandable response, all things considered. Being a Wii U exclusive, not many got to play the game back when it first came out in 2013 and experience its gameplay gimmick of controlling a squad of cartoon superheroes and having them merge into giant weapons. Nevertheless, word of mouth among those who have has remained strong throughout the years, helped by Platinum expressing interest in bringing The Wonderful 101 to current-gen consoles on a number of occasions.

Now it’s finally becoming a reality, and then some. With the money it has acquired so far, the Kickstarter for The Wonderful 101 Remastered has not only met its original goal of a Nintendo Switch version, but shot past the stretch goals for both PC and PS4 versions, ensuring this now-multiplatform remaster will be available to a much wider audience than before.

As of now, the Kickstarter campaign has cleared one more stretch goal, which will add a time attack mode to the game. Two more stretch goals remain currently, one for a “brand new 2D side scrolling adventure” called Luka’s First Mission at $1.5 million, and another for a remixed version of the game’s soundtrack at $1.75 million (the standard soundtrack is available as a bonus for backers who pledge at least $51).

“What an amazing campaign it’s been so far,” Platinum wrote in an update thanking the backers. “Through all of your wonderful support, we’re truly bringing the dream of The Wonderful 101: Remastered to life!” According to the developer, the plan is to release the game sometime in April, which suggests that it won’t have to do too much to get the game working on current-gen consoles, as well as add the new content.

Platinum will have more to reveal over the next few weeks, as it confirmed that it will be releasing new behind-the-scenes updates every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the course of the Kickstarter campaign. It remains to be seen, though, if it will go into further detail about its mysterious new “Platinum 4” initiative, of which The Wonderful 101 Remastered’s Kickstarter campaign seems to be the first part.

The Wonderful 101 Remastered is scheduled for an April launch on PC, PS4, and Switch.
