PlatinumGames, who has become one of the most prolific third party Japanese video game developers over the last decade, has worked with a myriad of different companies and publishers over the years. The company is probably most well-known for its relationships with Nintendo and Square Enix – having helped the company publish games like The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U and Nier: Automata for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. In fact, it recently came to light that Microsoft tried to buy PlatinumGames a year ago.

Now, PlatinumGames is turning to crowdfunding to self-publish their own IP for the first time ever. The company is bringing back one of its more overlooked titles through Kickstarter: The Wonderful 101. The company launched a Kickstarter campaign for The Wonderful 101 remaster earlier today. Reportedly, the remaster also looks like it will come to more than just the Nintendo Switch.

PlatinumGames launched a Kickstarter campaign earlier today for The Wonderful 101: Remastered. The Kickstarter called for an initial goal of 50,000 USD which was quickly surpassed in a matter of half an hour. PlatinumGames has been pretty vocal about their love for The Wonderful 101, even teasing this announcement a few days prior to its launch.

The Kickstarter launched with a base goal just to hit a launch on the Nintendo Switch. However, stretch goals have been set in place for the game to come to other platforms such as PC and Steam should the stretch goals be met. Additionally, stretch goals for more content and future DLC are also set in place, meaning that the remastered may come with even more content than was in the original title.

It seems like this Wonderful 101 Kickstarter is not the only new project PlatinumGames has in the works. Alongside Bayonetta 3 which is still currently in development, the company recently showcased a cryptic teaser site with the number 4 displayed prominently on the first page. With The Wonderful 101: Remastered Kickstarter launched, the website has updated to show that one of those four cryptic slots has been filled.

While some fans may be a bit confused that PlatinumGames is focusing on The Wonderful 101, it’s clear that Platinum really values The Wonderful 101 as a title. It’s also clear to see that Platinum was disappointed that the game underperformed largely in part due to the incredibly low install-base of the Wii U. Thankfully, The Wonderful 101: Remaster on Kickstarter looks to be a massive success for the company already.

The Wonderful 101: Remastered will reportedly launch in April on Switch, PS4, and PC.
