While the DC universe continues to grow and expand on existing characters' stories, it's also continuing to bring new characters to the big screen. A new report claims that the famed Wonder Twins are going to be one of the next additions to the DC Entertainment universe in what would be their first project where they will be front and center.

DC's Wonder Twins, otherwise known as Jayna and Zan, were first introduced to audiences through Hanna-Barbera’s The All-New Super Friends Hour. The pair are alien siblings who were teen companions to the more adult superheroes like Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman. They were then brought over to the Super Friends comics and eventually made appearances on live-action shows like Smallville and The Flash.

When next DCEU fans see the Wonder Twins, they'll be joining what is a fast-growing DC catalog on HBO Max. The Hollywood Reporter reveals they'll be joined by Adam Sztykiel, who has been hired to write and direct the Wonder Twins movie for the streaming platform. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill, the production company behind the Twilight saga and Maze Runner movies, are going to be behind this project as well.

Sztykiel has quite a few movie comedies on his resume, including Due Date, Project X, Spy Guys, and We’re the Millers. He's also got some big-budget action flicks under his belt, including the Dwayne Johnson-led video-game-based monster movie Rampage. Most recently, the writer and director earned his DC Comics reputation when he teamed up with Johnson yet again on this summer's Black Adam film.

Whenever the Wonder Twins have appeared on-screen and in their DC Comics iteration, they would always activate their powers by touching hands and saying, "Wonder Twin powers activate." Once those powers were activated, Jayna could turn into any animal that actually existed while Zan turned into any form of water he wanted. These powers were often made light of over the years and the Wonder Twins have become memes and jokes since they first appeared.

However, like many of the other DC heroes who have appeared on screen, DC has made an effort to make the characters a bit darker over the last few years so that they can be taken a bit more seriously. As of now, it's not clear whether Wonder Twins will go the more comedic route or if it will be similar in tone to Black Adam, as there aren't any details on just what the plot for the DC Entertainment film will be.

Wonder Twins is currently in development.
