With the success of WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Disney Plus is becoming a perfect platform for the MCU as they branch out into the television world. Now comes a big rumor that one of the most popular Marvel characters of all time, X-Men hero Wolverine, will be brought into the cinematic universe with a series of his own.

That Hashtag Show reports that Marvel will be launching a new anthology series on Disney Plus that will focus on Wolverine. The show will reportedly tackle a new era in Wolverine's long and violent life with each new season. It is also said that the first season of the show would focus on the Weapon X program, which is when Logan first received his adamantium claws and became Wolverine.

Ever since Marvel regained the screen rights to the X-Men, fans have been eagerly awaiting their arrival in the MCU. This anticipation has led to X-Men rumors and theories in both WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that ended up bearing no truth. If the rumors of a Wolverine show prove to be true, it will mark the first official X-Men-related project to be in the works within the cinematic universe. The original report notes that there is currently no showrunner or writers attached to the rumored series and there have also been no casting decisions made for the iconic role of Wolverine himself.

Of course, as with many news stories such as this, the information must be taken with a large grain of salt. Kevin Feige has given no indication of X-Men projects in development at this time and there are already so many huge projects in the works at Marvel, including a large number of Disney Plus shows such as the She-Hulk series. However, That Hashtag Show stands by their sources, which means time will tell if the rumor will pan out.

Despite the excitement from fans, the MCU is a very crowded cinematic universe at the moment and it feels like the wrong time to introduce the X-Men into the story. However, the character of Wolverine could be the perfect mutant to introduce first, and an anthology show could be the perfect platform for him. Wolverine has such a complex and interesting history, with stories ranging from his origins to his time in Japan to the famous Old Man Logan story.

A Wolverine anthology series would allow the character to develop outside the crowded world of the MCU, while also establishing him within the MCU so he can appear in future team-up movies. The question still remains whether the story is true, but just the idea of it is very exciting.

The X-Men films are now available on Disney Plus.
