Bethesda has released the official launch trailer for Wolfenstein: Youngblood, the latest spin-off entry in the series, which finds Jess and Soph Blazkowicz on the hunt to find their father BJ, the series main protagonist. Due to release later this week, Wolfenstein: Youngblood is set during the 1980s, roughly 20 years after the events of Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, and it will introduce cooperative play into the series for the very first time.

The new trailer features a voice-over from BJ, warning his daughters of the monsters in the world. BJ refers to Jess and Soph, the two playable protagonists in Wolfenstein: Youngblood, as "Wolves," with the words "Wolves. Hunt. Together." appearing throughout the trailer. When Soph asks Jess what the twin's plans are for finding BJ, she responds with, "find our dad and kill Nazis."

Despite Arkane Studios and MachineGames confirming that split-screen will not be supported, Wolfenstein: Youngblood is the first game in the franchise to introduce cooperative play, allowing players to complete the game, in its entirety, online with a friend. Indeed, Youngblood has been designed entirely around cooperative play and its two player characters, and thus the second character will become an AI companion for those that don't want to play online or don't have access to an internet connection.

Executive Producer Jeff Gustafsson recently spoke about how long it will take to beat Wolfenstein: Youngblood, calling it the largest game MachineGames has ever created. MachineGames has ditched the linear approach of previous entries, introducing a brand new progression system, more optional side content, and the ability to choose which missions to play and the order they're played in.

Bethesda is no stranger to releasing smaller, standalone games for some of its most popular franchises. These games often come between the mainline numbered entries, and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood from 2015 and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider from 2017 are two such examples. While we know that Wolfenstein 3 is currently in development, Wolfenstein: Youngblood appears to have enough content and replayability to keep players invested in this lead-up to the sequel.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood releases July 26 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
