During its E3 2016 press conference, Bethesda teases the existence of the rumored new Wolfenstein game, which may be titled Wolfenstein: The New Colossus.

Rumors of a new Wolfenstein game appeared just days before Bethesda's E3 2016 press conference was scheduled to take place. However, as anyone that watched the conference in its entirety can attest, no such game actually appeared at the event. Even so, some eagle-eyed viewers spotted a potential reference to the next Wolfenstein game, which is supposedly entitled Wolfenstein: The New Colossus.

Before Bethesda's E3 2016 press conference kicked off proper, a cmd.exe screen appeared, showing off id Software games that have released over the studio's history, as well as a couple of titles from MachineGames based on id's IP. Each game on the screen was accompanied with a release date, except for something known as "New_Colossus." On the list of games, New_Colossus comes right after the entry for Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, which has led many to the conclusion that the next Wolfenstein is in fact Wolfenstein: The New Colossus.

This certainly isn't the first time that we've heard rumblings of a new Wolfenstein game. A voice actress for The New Order previously leaked the existence of a Wolfenstein sequel, and so it's no surprise to see Bethesda tease it at E3. Unfortunately for franchise fans, however, Bethesda's talk of a new Wolfenstein game didn't extend beyond this tease.

Considering the success of Wolfenstein: The New Order, a title that we listed as one of the best games of 2014, it makes sense for Bethesda to move forward with a sequel. Presumably, this sequel has been in development since the reboot launched two years back, or at least since The Old Blood expansion released in 2015, so it may even be fairly far along in development. If that's the case, it's possible that we will see more substantial evidence of it soon.

How soon? Well, a common theme throughout Bethesda's press conference was that more on its E3 lineup would be revealed at QuakeCon in August. From the reveal of Quake Champions to the exciting trailer for the new Prey, fans were promised more to come at QuakeCon, so perhaps that event will be headlined by a proper unveiling for Wolfenstein: The New Colossus.

And if Wolfenstein: The New Colossus isn't shown off at QuakeCon, that could be an indication that Bethesda is saving it for next year's E3. So far, Bethesda's E3 press conferences have proven popular with fans, and a new Wolfenstein game could be enough to make next year's worth checking out as well.

Wolfenstein: The New Colossus is rumored to be in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
