Although Bethesda revealed a number of trailers during the course of its E3 2017 showcase, one that caught the eye of many gamers was the cinematic trailer for Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. Immediately, many fans of MachineGames' Wolfenstein: The New Order were intrigued by the return of the franchise, particularly when it came to the United States setting and the chance to overthrow Nazi rule. Now, Bethesda has given some indication of exactly where in America the game will be set.
According to the publisher, which revealed some additional information about Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, the title will take players to many different parts of the United States. Although there will no doubt be more surprises along the way, Bethesda has so far confirmed that gamers will be able to look at Roswell, New Mexico under the Nazis, as well as a flooded version of New Orleans and a "post-nuclear Manhattan."
Although exactly what each of these areas will mean for the player - aside from killing Nazis - is not exactly known, Bethesda has painted a rather vivid picture of a 1960s America under the rule of these invaders. From the looks of it, the KKK is thriving under Nazi rule in Roswell, meaning that BJ Blazkowicz may have to fight against US collaborators alongside the invaders themselves.
From the footage and screenshots seen so far, New Orleans seems to be an extremely interesting - and dangerous - area to play through. The city itself has been flooded, and there is the terrifying prospect of fighting off not only Nazi forces but also trying to avoid alligators as well. It certainly looks as though there will be plenty of twists and turns in Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, and lots of challenges for the Blazkowicz and the American resistance movement to overcome.
More news on Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus has been a long time coming. Indeed, after the game was initially confirmed to be in development back in 2015, Bethesda then teased fans with more information during its E3 2016 event. Thankfully, now fans have been able to get their first proper look at the title due to this cinematic trailer release.
Of course, many fans of the franchise had already gained a little bit of knowledge about the game based on an early retail listing leak, so certain details about the title may not have quite had the impact that Bethesda wanted. Nonetheless, those who enjoyed Wolfenstein: The New Order will no doubt be keeping a keen eye on what the publisher is willing to share in the coming months before the game's release.
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus will be released on October 27, 2017, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
