Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem showed a lot of promise when it launched back in February, but was unfortunately held back by a range of server issues and game-breaking bugs. Luckily, developer Wolcen Studio has spent several months getting Wolcen fixed up, and now it’s at the point where it can begin focusing on releasing new content for the APRG, which is not too far off.

The studio announced in a Steam community post this week that Wolcen will be getting its first free content update soon. While it didn’t go into much detail about it, it did state that the update, titled Chronicle I: Bloodtrail, will introduce an economy reset to the game. As a result of this, all characters created in Wolcen before Bloodtrail’s launch will be moved over to a separate game mode called Legacy and won’t be able to interact or trade with characters created afterwards (though they will be able to do so with other Legacy characters).

These changes and the rest of what the first Chronicle will have to offer follow the 17 patches that the studio has released for Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem since launch, which have addressed “the most common and critical issues” and tweaked everything from balance and performance, according to Wolcen Studio. Going on, the studio acknowledged that it has been largely silent throughout 2020, but assured players that it’s been listening to feedback and using it to “improve the foundations of Wolcen.”

While it remains to be seen what Bloodtrail will bring to the game, the studio stated that it’s “only the beginning of a new Wolcen’s journey.” That it’s been spending so much time working on fixing the game’s launch issues shows that it's committed to making Wolcen a better game, and with luck that will result in an ARPG that will easily be able to compete with the likes of Diablo and Path of Exile before long.

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem is available for PC.
