While some might see the extreme poison damage from metal virtue spells as the reason to invest in this branch, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty veterans actually love the metal virtues due to their stop spirit bonuses in melee combat.

An average gamer will still get a lot out of a metal-first build in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. The extra casting power and reduction in spirit loss over time means being able to use the special moves on weapons with increasing frequency.

Primary Melee Weapon: Curved Sabre (Guding Blade)

The way virtues work is that they tend to promote a specific weapon and style. For the metal virtue, that means becoming great with curved sabres. These behave in a similar fashion as swords do, with a focus on attack speed and increased recovery from blocking.

Because the metal virtue assists with spirit management, this means that the character will already be dangerous at range. With a mobile weapon such as a curved sabre, the player can defend and then get back to casting quicker. Or players can use extra special moves with the spirit they retain.

Secondary Melee Weapon: Sword (Sword Of Yu The Great)

Most builds will want to have one quick and light-hitting weapon while also using one slow and heavy-hitting weapon for stuns. The metal build is an exception to this because the Sword of Yu the Great gets its primary damage boost from the metal virtue. It's quick and yet hits like a truck.RELATED: How Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Provides More Build Freedom Than FromSoftware's Games

Get used to switching melee weapons quickly. Use the curved sabre to drain the enemy's spirit bar and, when they get stunned, pull out the sword to deliver a massive lethal blow. This is far superior to just using the curved sabre to deal such blows. Using the biggest damage weapon possible in these moments makes boss fights end much quicker.

Ranged Weapon: Bow (Tiger Hunting Bow)

Only one ranged weapon in the game draws its power from the metal virtue. The Tiger Hunting Bow is the exception and it's a significant exception. Even in instances where enemy morale matches or exceeds the player's morale, this can often be a one-hit kill.

This bow is not all that common, so brace to use an early game build until this bow can complete the metal build's armory. After getting it, players should be using this bow with regularity. Even in boss fights, if the opponent retreats, a few shots from this will teach them a lesson.

Thrown Weapon: Fire Pot

With quick attacks, huge hits, and single-target ranged capabilities all covered, players will need something for mobs at range. The fire pot fills this role perfectly, taking out enemy groups or, at the very least, whittling down their health to a manageable number.

This is not the way to go in boss fights, though, so stick to the bow there. For further help in these deadly scenarios, unleash an effectively timed Divine Beast cast to deal more damage than even the fire pot could do. It's also much safer to use. Fire pots in the middle of combat are a risky proposition.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
