In both The Witcher game series and the Netflix series, there are few characters that have the kind of cult following as Yennefer. Certainly, Geralt is at the center of both stories, but fans of both tales have the same kind of passion for her that Geralt appears to have. In both versions of the character, she's an enchanting temptress that offers more to the protagonist of the series than desire. There's something about her that has grabbed Geralt's attention in a way that no other woman in the world has been able to do. Despite those similarities, there are also quite a few differences between The Witcher game version and The Witcher Netflix series version.

Yennefer is a complicated character in versions of The Witcher. She seems to be someone who wants to be a heroine, but she not afraid of taking what she wants. This particular aspect of her personality is certainly shown off more in the Netflix series, especially when she's on-screen with Geralt. It is that dual personality that drives some of the other differences between the two Yennefers.

The Witcher On Netflix Has Other Love Interests

Yennefer and Geralt facing each other.

Because The Witcher on Netflix shows more of Yennefer's backstory, viewers also get to see that Geralt wasn't her only romance. In the streaming series, she actually seems to have a stronger connection to a mage named Istredd. One of the reasons why their connection seems a bit deeper in the show is because Istredd was her first real love. She first meets the man when she was still a humpback who was given away by her father. As she gets the beauty she's well known for through her magics, she and Istredd grow closer.

Because this is The Witcher, there's also a bit of a sad, dramatic twist to this relationship, but the bigger detail is that Istredd is neither mentioned or shown in the games. One of the questions that Season 2 of The Witcher needs to answer, is whether or not Yennefer's and Geralt's relationship will get closer to the game. It's possible the show will continue to make her play a bit harder to get than she is in the game by having her be torn with other romantic partners before returning to Geralt.

Yennefer's Darker Side Is On Display In The Witcher Series

Witcher Netflix Series Yennefer Using her Power

While The Witcher game tends to portray Yennefer as someone who is an elusive love, more tragic than potentially evil, the Netflix series shows she really does have a dark side to her personality. As mentioned earlier, some of this is part of the dual-personality of Yennefer's character. However, her backstory, and the fact that her origin in The Witcher series is that she was both hated by her family and taunted by villagers, she has a chance to truly turn evil. There is one particular scene, where she's taken over an entire castle by using her sensual powers, that feels as if she could take it to the next level. However, in part thanks to Geralt, she reigns that in.

Building off her darker side in the Netflix series, there's also the fact that she's a bit more of a protagonist in the game. There's definitely an argument to be made that she needs to be a "better" person in The Witcher games because the relationship between Geralt and Yennefer isn't as deep. The game's writers have the excuse of knowing there had to be more action in there to hold players' attention.
