The Witcher season 2 is not even an entire month old, but it looks like work on the next installment in the popular Netflix original show is starting in earnest. In fact, it appears that filming for The Witcher season 3 could be starting as soon as early this spring.

The Witcher season 2 launched last month and has been met with mostly positive reviews, but it appears the production team isn't resting on its laurels. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has made it clear that she wants to make at least seven seasons of the show and she's seemingly convinced Henry Cavill to agree to that number. It appears that knowing the potential endpoint of the Witcher series, Schmidt Hissrich is wasting no time in getting the third season going.

Redanian Intelligence, a website dedicated to The Witcher, says that production on the show has actually already begun, as the writing for season 3 started way back in July of 2021. The scripts for The Witcher season 3 were then supposedly finished in December, right about the same time season 2 was officially released. With that step finished, it's thought that pre-production will be able to get started later in January, and then shooting on the next season will begin in March.

It's worth noting that the outlet pointed out that the timeline for when the next season for The Witcher will go into filming and production in earnest could easily change. It seems as if the team is moving quickly to try and get season 3 in the tank. That could be because it thinks it's moving against the roadblock that is the coronavirus pandemic and the Omicron surge.

The show has already had some rocky times thanks to the pandemic. Of course, that wasn't the only issue that slowed down the production of season 2, as there was also an injury to The Witcher lead star Cavill. Now that the showrunners have managed to overcome several obstacles to get the second season onto Netflix by the end of 2021, they will apparently try and get the next installment out there as soon as possible.

So far, all of the information as to what stage of production the show is in are rumors and messages from supposed insiders close to Redanian Intelligence. While Schmidt Hissrich has been doing plenty of talking about the current season and her plans for subsequent installments, she hasn't talked much at all about where production is for the very next season.
