The Witcher season 2 was originally scheduled to begin filming on February 17, but it seems to have started a few days early. It's worth mentioning that the same happened with season 1, and while it's only a couple of days, it means that season 2 is closer and closer to airing. Unfortunately, the air date for Witcher season 2 is still some time off, and it even seems one heavily requested change may not be taking place.

Many likely recall the Nilfgaard armor from the Witcher video game series, and while both the Netflix show and the video game are adaptations of the same novel series, it's clear their interpretations are distinct. The Nilfgaard armor in The Witcher 3 was black and metallic, whereas the Netflix take showcases wrinkly, unflattering, and less than ideal armor. When this was first criticized, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrish addressed the Nilfgaard armor criticism, saying the decision was made to showcase how the armor was mass produced and how the armor would operate in battle, instead of aesthetics.

Nonetheless, the Witcher Netflix series promised to address the Nilfgaard armor, yet if recent costume tests for extras were indicative of anything, that may not be the case. Redanian Intelligence managed to get its hand on some images from the costume test, and as seen below, the armor itself is still very much the same. It's possible that the armor change will have something to do with the story in Witcher's season 2, which would be a nice touch to explain the costume transition, but that's mere speculation at this time.

Concerning the volume of complaints regarding the Nilfgaard armor, it would be surprising if this wasn't updated, so there could be a variety of explanations for the existence of this armor. It could be for a flash back, older shot, or the like, or it could simply be completely unconnected.

Admittedly, that doesn't seem to be the likeliest scenario, but either way, it may not bother many fans. The first season of The Witcher performed well with fans, if not all critics, and so it'll be interesting to see whether or not season 2 can recapture that magic, with or without proper Nilfgaard armor.

The Witcher season 2 is in development for Netflix.
