Production on season two of Netflix show The Witcher may resume soon, suggests a new report. Netflix paused production of The Witcher season two back in March over concerns about the spread of COVID-19.

A report by Deadline has revealed that Arborfield Studios, the UK production studio where The Witcher season two was being filmed, could open again in just a few weeks. Arborfield's managing director Bob Terry is reportedly working to reopen Arborfield and will be holding meetings over the next two weeks in order to discuss safety procedures.

Production on season two of The Witcher has been shutdown for just over two months now, and this reopening date means that it will have been around three months since work on the hugely popular Netflix show was halted. On March 16, Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund Giantsbane on Game of Thrones and has been cast as Nivellen in The Witcher, confirmed that he had tested positive for COVID-19. A month later, Hivju said that he had recovered but by then the UK had entered full lockdown and those who aren't essential workers had been advised not to leave their homes.

This report that The Witcher season two can start filming again also comes after the UK movie and TV industry was given the go ahead to reopen. New safety measures would be in place, such as the use of remote technology if possible, social distancing, and the use of personal protective equipment. Other countries around the world, such as New Zealand, have also allowed some productions to begin again with major movies like Avatar 2 now preparing to do more filming.

It's unclear if fans can expect a delay to the release of the second season. A report released not long after production was stopped suggested that a delay on The Witcher season two is unlikely unless production got delayed until early 2021. If filming is beginning at the end of June or the beginning of July, it means that the team has a lot of time to complete work on the season if it is to make its confirmed 2021 release date.

Netflix won't want to delay the series as The Witcher is one of its most popular shows. In February 2020, several months after the show was released, Netflix said that The Witcher is the most popular show in the world. Season two could also be hugely popular but first, the team needs to complete filming.
