It looks as though the remake of the original The Witcher is going to be in development for some time, as CD Projekt Red says it will be coming out after the new Witcher game. Based on the popular fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, the video game adaptations of The Witcher exploded in popularity over the years, with the third entry being considered by many to be one of the greatest western RPGs in recent history, so it's not surprising many are looking forward to some new installments.

It was recently revealed that the remake of The Witcher will be open world, deviating from the 2007 original. The gaming industry is currently saturated with remakes and remasters, with the likes of Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space coming soon. Many of these games have been proving popular, and something like CDPR's maiden release feels ready for a modern renewal, but it looks as though fans are in for a long wait.

In a recent financial conference, as spotted by PCGamer, the developer's CEO Adam Kiciński has said that the remake of The Witcher will be coming after "Polaris," which is the codename for what will be the brand-new entry in the Witcher series. The reason behind this, Kiciński continued, is that the remake will likely be based off of the technologies that are going into making the new game, which means both titles will, in part at least, be in development at the same time. However, at this early stage, there's no way to tell exactly when either game will be releasing. The discussion begins around the 28:05 mark.

Given that the Witcher 4 may not be out for at least three years, it sounds as though the remake is way off in the distance currently. On top of that, actor Doug Cockle, who voices protagonist Geralt of Rivia, has not been contacted by CDPR to discuss whether he will be returning to reprise his role as the gravelly voiced monster hunter. Fans waiting for either game will need to be patient while the studio works on them, but there is at least something on the horizon.

The PS5 and Xbox Series versions of The Witcher 3 will be launching December 14, with a recent trailer showing the graphical improvements to the game. The 2015 RPG is already considered to be quite stunning in terms of its visuals, and as mentioned above, it's considered a landmark entry in the genre. So at least players will have that to look forward to while they wait for the new game and official remake.
