The Witcher is definitely popular. In fact, the fantasy series was one of Netflix's most-watched shows in 2019. But what is it that draws so many fans in? Obviously, the books and the games have their fans already. Yet what makes this story stand out? The answer to this question might be as diverse as the fan base. After all, everyone has different tastes. However, there are certain aspects of the story that do make it unforgettable. Before getting into these aspects, though, it's essential to understand the story of The Witcher. This Netflix hit mainly follows Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill). He is the titular Witcher. A witcher, in this world, is someone who hunts monsters.

Geralt seems to be a loner type, though that doesn't last long. In The Witcher Season 1 Episode 2, he meets Jaskier (Joey Batey), a bard, and becomes friends with him. In episode 5 of Season 1, Geralt meets the mage Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and falls in love with her. Then, of course, at the end of season 1, Geralt meets Ciri (Freya Allan), who he is destined to take care of. Even in the first episode of The Witcher, Geralt shows that he is not entirely a loner when he bonds with Renfri. Yet Geralt is not the only main character in The Witcher. There's also Yennefer and Ciri. Viewers follow the journeys of all three characters, and all are equally compelling. Yennefer's rise to power is highly intriguing, as is Ciri's journey to learn to survive independently.

And when the show puts three interesting characters together, as hopefully, these three will be in season 2, things can only be better. Even the secondary characters in The Witcher are intriguing. Characters such as Jaskier or Triss Merigold, or Ciri's grandmother Queen Calanthe are just as critical as the main characters. And many fans wouldn't have it any other way. The well-written characters are definitely part of the show's popularity. What else is there? Well, fans also enjoy the stunning plot and action scenes and the show's more emotional moments. Put those two together with The Witcher's strong characters, and it's a recipe for success. Season 2 of The Witcher will also feature, based on casting announcements, some more characters from the books. One such character is Nivellen, a man who is cursed to be a beast.

Henry Cavill The Witcher

His story is basically Beauty and the Beast, with a dark twist. Of course, it wouldn't be The Witcher without those. Fans can therefore look forward to even more intriguing characters coming up in season 2. Possibly, the action scenes will be even better in season 2. It seems that The Witcher can only improve from here. Though season 1 set a high standard, season 2 might just beat it. As far as emotional moments go, now that Geralt and Ciri have united, fans are likely in for more of those. Nivellen's story, too, will likely get to tug at fans' hearts. Nenneke, the high priestess of the temple of Melitele, is also interesting. She will be not only another intriguing character but also a voice of reason.

The plot is equally intriguing as the characters. A show like The Witcher could easily fall into a monster-of-the-episode format, but it never does. Instead, viewers watch as Geralt struggles with complex decisions and, of course, survival. They see Yennefer realize the price of her power. And they see Ciri running, running, running towards her destiny.  In addition, the action scenes are done well and are not gratuitous. Everything that happens moves the plot along and the characters with it. The emotional moments, too, are done well. Whether it's Jaskier's simple "and yet here we are" to Geralt, Geralt and Ciri's first meeting, or the demise of Queen Calanthe, audiences really get the emotional resonance of these moments. The Witcher is full of aspects that make it popular, from the characters to the plot to the emotional moments.

And all of these aspects will likely be present even more in the next season.  Of course, these reasons might not resonate with every fan of The Witcher. Some fans might agree with some reasons and not others. In contrast, others will have completely different reasons for appreciating the show. Whatever the case may be, fans all love The Witcher, and that is what matters. Whether a fan prefers the action or the characters or the emotional moments or something different entirely, all fans enjoy the show. In the end, no story can please every fan. Yet so far, The Witcher seems to be doing a pretty good job of it. The show is definitely popular. All the writers need to do is build on their success with season 2. And so far, it looks promising.

Only time will really tell. Yet it appears that season 2 will be just as good as the first, if not better. Fans certainly have a lot to look forward to. The Witcher is bound to be extremely exciting.
