It's been almost three years since the initial release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the people over at GOG.com have made the first title in the series, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, available for free. Of course, there are a couple of things that need to be done to successfully secure a copy of the game and traversing the unnamed continent. Firstly, players need to download the free to play Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, which itself is a fleshed out version of the card game in the main series.

Once Gwent is installed, gamers will need a subscription to the GOG newsletter on the registered account, although it is possible to unsubscribe from this service at any time. Once all that's done the game can be accessed via the websiteand as an extra incentive, GOG is offering a Gwent Card Keg, which opens into five extra cards for those who wish to continue playing the card game.

The first title in The Witcher series is an excellent RPG outing, especially considering its release date in 2007, although it does not quite stack up to the success of the third game. For those new to the series, and who find themselves enjoying Geralt of Rivia's adventures, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Enhanced Edition is currently 85% off at a cost of just $3 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is half price at just $20.

The Witcher series still remains a flagship in the genre and has the capacity to keep players engaged for prolonged periods of time, particularly the latest title which is widely accepted as one of the best games of recent years, and for those willing to inconvenience themselves slightly the first iteration is the best way to get involved. There is currently no official deadline on the deal but it can be expected to expire and some point in the near future so get it while it's available.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
