Christmas may still be a few days away, but Witchmas is here for fans of The Witcher, thus putting an end to the show’s holiday social media campaign. Ever since December 15, The Witcher had been teasing fans on Twitter with selected images and footage from the show while it’s currently getting ready for its second season. The latest reveal is the logo for the upcoming Netflix anime, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

So far the event has shared a varied set of material, ranging from a bloopers compilation to an up-close interview with Geralt’s beloved Roach, pictures of props set to appear in season two, a full photoshoot with Jaskier, and a fully narrated video bestiary describing all of the monsters seen in The Witcher’s first season.

For this final entry in the Witchmas event, fans were polled on whether they’d rather see the “Nightmare of the Wolf Logo” or try their luck by abiding by the law of surprise. Like on most occasions, Twitter took their chances with fate, only this time around The Witcher had a different kind of surprise.

Unexpectedly, the surprise was indeed The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf logo, so fans may feel a little betrayed by the show’s social media wizards this time around. The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf was an already confirmed anime feature film from Netflix for 2021, though it still hasn’t been specified if it’ll be directly tied to the plot in the live-action series starring Henry Cavill.

With this new anime spin, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf clearly signals Netflix’s intentions to capitalize on the series’ success, which has also served to drive the books and games’ popularity even further. With showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich and producer Beau DeMayo already on board to produce the anime adaptation of The Witcher’s stories, it’s likely the film could follow a similar take on Andrzej Sapkowski’s books.

So in the end, Witchmas has come to an end without a trailer or teaser for The Witcher’s season two, something that’s not as surprising when considered the delay suffered in its production schedule. The only question now is what will land first on Netflix, the Nightmare of the Wolf anime or The Witcher’s second season?
