It would seem that Netflix's new The Witcher series has revived CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3 video game, along with a number of old jokes and memes from the bygone days of 2015. However, with the new series making such huge waves online, even more fans are coming around to find the same coincidence for Geralt's name that players did as when the game series started gaining traction among gamers.

The joke involves the similarities between The Witcher's protagonist's name, Geralt of Rivia, sounds alarmingly similar to Geraldo Rivera, at least to first time readers. It should be noted that Geralt's name isn't pronounced the same as Geraldo, as the Witcher's name is enuciated with a hard g, like gift, as opposed to Mr. Rivera's name having a soft g, like giraffe.

This meme's latest resurgence has come with a brand new round of memes and posts to Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit, as more and more fans of the Netflix series gather around the increasingly popular show. Some of the jokes that have come quickly to the top point out the similarities in hilarious fashion, such as suggesting that Geralt of Rivia is really just a D&D character Geraldo Rivera was too lazy to give a proper name. Others claim that Mr. Rivera is indeed himself a Witcher, having survived the Witcher Trials and earning his current silver haired look through similar mutations as those suffered by the Witchers depicted in the show.

It seems that nothing brings fans together from Netflix's series, the related games, and the books both Witcher franchises are based on faster than the communal power of memes. Fortunately, the game series has already picked apart the virtual side of the franchise, leaving plenty of foundations for anyone looking to find amusing angles to start from with the new show. Although with how different the Witcher show, games, and books are, there are definitely new pieces of fan content that will cross the threshold across the three mediums.

With how popular the new Netflix series is, this likely won't be the last trend to flood across the internet as more and more viewers log in and binge through the show. Granted, this may find its way back into the game series soon, not unlike how the show's catchy bard tune appeared in Wild Hunt thanks to some dedicated modders.
