The official social media account of The Witcher: Blood Origin announced 10 more actors will be joining the previously cast Sophia Brown in the upcoming prequel series to Netflix's The Witcher. In addition to the new cast members, fans also got confirmation on the directors who will be working on this series in addition to more crew members.
The Witcher: Blood Origin will be a prequel that tells the story of the creation of the first Witcher. Joining the previously announced Brown as Éile, Laurence O'Fuarain as Fjall, and Michelle Yeoh as Scían will be: Mirren Mack in the role of Merwyn, Lenny Henry in the role of Balor, Jacob Collins-Levy in the role of Eredin, Lizzie Annis in the role of Zacaré, Huw Novelli in the role of Brother Death, Francesca Mills in the role of Meldof, Amy Murray in the role of Fenrik, Nathaniel Curtis in the role of Brían, Zach Wyatt in the role of Syndril, and Dylan Moran in the role of Uthrok One-Nut.
The Witcher: Blood Origin will be set 1,200 years before the time of Henry Cavill's Geralt of Rivia. For those unfamiliar, Geralt is the protagonist of The Witcher series and belongs to the titular group of people known as "Witchers." Geralt is one of the most legendary and greatest of the Witchers, with his name known far across the land. Witchers are individuals who undergo extensive physical and mental training/conditioning with the addition of a mysterious ritual that enables them to become monster hunters for hire. Witchers are also devoid of any emotion, which means they speak and communicate in a monotone cadence and are essentially stoic for the rest of their time.
This series will chronicle the origin of this group of people and will hopefully show viewers the way a Witcher is created so fans who are new to the series can get context for understanding Geralt better. This prequel joins a list of multiple upcoming Witcher projects that includes an anime series, a second season of the mainline Netflix series, and even a rumored long-awaited sequel to the critically acclaimed Witcher 3 video game.
Even though The Witcher is technically a book series many look at The Witcher as a video game franchise as well, and the Netflix series is paving the way for live-action series based on video game properties. With the long-awaited Fallout series slated to come to Amazon Prime, many are excited for the future of live-action video game properties.
With that being said, fans still need a solid video game live-action film. With the recent release of the Mortal Kombat film, many are awaiting a future when live-action video game films will be universally acclaimed and one can enter the competition at the Oscars. The Dark Knight showed that superhero films can do it, so now fans just need their video game release.
