The world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is full of interesting content that has kept players captivated through the years. And with the release of the 'Blood and Wine' DLC, CD Projekt Red added even more content with breathtaking landscapes and captivating quests. One of such quests is the 'Wine Wars' side quest that has players choose who takes over a vineyard.

This quest has multiple paths and endings depending on players' choices and actions. One of which is the 'Wine Wars: Vermentino' side quest. It is one of three paths that players can take during the quests and has players complete 5 objectives in total.

Hidden Treasure

Beastiary page for Rotfiends

Players will be tasked with eliminating a group of Rotfiends at a hut. The monsters themselves do not pose much of a challenge, but they explode when they die. Players must take care not to get too close to them when they reach that point. If the players time and position themselves correctly, they can use an exploding Rotfiend against the others in the group. Necrophage Oil provides players with an edge against the monsters. But players will have no problem dealing with the Rotfiends with just their silver swords. Looting the treasure is not required to fulfill this objective.

Person In Distress

Bandits from The Witcher 3

Players will need to find a cabin where they will need to dispatch a group of bandits. As long as they don't get rushed, they will have little problem dealing with the bandits. Once they are dealt with, players will free a blacksmith NPC. They have a choice of telling him to go to the vineyard on his own and hope he gets there safely, or escort him themselves. In either case, there will be a blacksmith at the vineyard afterward and players can use his services.

Abandoned Sites

An Archespore with its closed bud in the backgroud

Players will need to clear two Abandoned Sites where they will face a group of Archespores. They are known for their poison attacks and closed flowers that explode when players get close to them. Players must take care not to get too close to the monsters because the Archespores can quickly deplete their health bar. In order to help themselves, players can apply Cursed Oil to their silver swords to give their attacks a damage boost. Similarly, using Igni against the Archespores is also effective.

The best strategy is to attack them when they take their flower form. They must be swift on their feet and attack when there is an opening only and dodge any incoming attacks. This ensures their health bars remain at full and the objective gets completed with the least amount of resistance. Once both sites are clear of the monsters, the local populace will return and the objectives will be completed.

Guarded Treasure

The player is fighting a group of Archespores

Players will once again face a group of Archespores. If they have completed either of the Abandoned Site objectives, then they only need to repeat the process. As long as they stay away from the Archespores' poison attacks and exploding flowers, they will have no problem cutting the monsters down. Once the monsters are dealt with, players need to loot the body which will give them a 'Heavy Brass Key' and 'Orders on Elegant Stationery'. Reading it will raise suspicions about possible sabotage at the vineyard. The document and the key are required for a related quest called 'Wine Wars: Deus In The Machina'. In order to trigger that quest, players need to find both copies of the orders. The other one is found on Liam's vineyard should players choose to play that quest instead. Otherwise, they only need to loot the corpse for the objective to be considered complete.

Deus In The Machina

The Orders on Elegant Stationery are added in the inventory

The Deus In The Machina quest uncovers the true reasons for the problems at both Liam and Matilda's vineyards. Players will need to get rid of problems at both their vineyards for this quest to start and read both copies of 'Orders on Elegant Stationery'. The quest sends players to a farmhouse where they uncover proof of sabotage at both their vineyards. Afterward, players will meet the Ducal Clerk at the Plegmund's Bridge and present this evidence.

The clerk then gives the Belgaard Vineyard to both Liam and Matilda who share it happily. The pair will ask the players to return after 3 days, on doing so they will give players a 'Bottle Of Rare Wine'. They also agree to deliver the wine Corvo Bianco regularly. It is considered the best ending for the Wine Wars side quest.

Aftermath And Reward

Liam and Matilda, possible owners of the Belgaard Vineyard

If players only cleared Matilda's vineyards of its problems then they will need to return to the Ducal Clerk at Plegmund's Bridge. They will need to inform him that the vineyard has been cleared after which Matilda wins the auction. She becomes the sole owner of the Belgaard Vineyard while Liam becomes devastated and no longer appears at the Belgaard Vineyard. Players will then be awarded 100 experience points and whatever reward money they negotiated with Matilda prior to starting the quest.
