The Witcher 3 has to be one of the most detailed action-RPGs in recent times. Created by CD Projekt Red, this game has everything going for it, from the artistic environments and story-driven open world. Fans of the Witcher series know and understand that the developers are very keen on adding details.

These involve easter eggs, references, and hidden secrets. Ever since the first Witcher game, the series is famous for its storytelling, encouraging players to explore the semi-open environments. With The Witcher 3, however, things have shifted from the smaller settings to a big open-world. This means there are more things to explore, and more secrets to uncover than ever.

10 Breaking Bad Reference

If there's one thing hardcore gamers are known for, is hunting trophies or achievements. Whether it is beating the game ten times or collecting hidden packages around a map, nothing has stopped the players from earning their rightful achievements. Knowing the importance of this, CD Projekt Red has added subtle detail in one of the accomplishments itself. When players have finally learned the 12 potion formula, the game grants the player an achievement called "Let's Cook!" This is a direct nod to the popular show Breaking Bad.

9 Dating Spot

While playing The Witcher 3, if the players wander off the Novigrad, near the water and woods, there's a small wooden bench placed conveniently in a sort of a hidden location. This bench is facing a beautiful view, essentially making it a sweet spot to date. Well, coincidentally, that is what it is. As the players make their way around the bench, they will hear the music change into a romantic theme. Most of the time, couples can be seen here, with a male usually trying to impress the female by doing push-ups or dancing.

8 Weeping Statues

Weeping Angel statues have been popularized by the cult-classic series Dr. Who. These statues are usually predatory creatures who look like angels. The creepiest part about these statues is that once someone turns their back on them, they snap from one position to the other.

They are mostly trying to hunt the person. This entire situation in its entirety has been coded into The Witcher 3. Where the players can experience the same scenario in Velen, this is worth a look, especially at night time.

7 The Bonfire

Dark Souls is one of the most popular video games of the last two console generations. So it is fair to say that the game is viral among fans. But it seems that it is famous among developers as well. Because ever since the release of Dark Souls, many games have paid homage to the series. There was a bonfire Easter egg in Borderlands 2, and similarly, there's one in The Witcher 3. This has to be one of the most subtle ways of respecting the greatness of the series.

Many developer teams in the world have the tendency to put their names or logos inside the game they are making. Valve has been noted to do so, Eidos has done the same, and now CD Projekt Red has done the same. This little nugget of detail mostly goes unnoticed by fans, as it is not at the forefront of the game but instead around the roof. The wind vane (or weather vane) is a small metal structure made to figure out the wind direction. Mostly it has a rooster on the top, but in The Witcher 3, it is replaced by the logo of CDPR.

5 DRM Reference

Most PC gamers must be familiar with the term DRM as it is one of the latest forms of video game protection against piracy. Denuvo is one of the most popular DRM, which is known to be very hard to crack and is infamous for poor game performance as a result.

CDPR has been known to dislike the concept of DRM, as they believe they can trust their fans and have released The Witcher 3 on GOG, without the need for any internal protection. The phrase DRM is so infamous among the developer team that they've added it as a hidden detail into the game.

4 Saving Moritz

Saving Moritz in The Witcher 3

At Vegelbud's famous masquerade party, there's a character named Moritz, who is a sorcerer. He disrespects Triss during a cutscene, acting like he is superior. Foolishly enough, his story takes a turn, as he gets caught by the witch hunters and is about to be burned alive. Players can help Moritz before completing the masquerade quest, by stopping the witch hunters from killing him. This is a tiny window, which can result in saving his life. If helped, Moritz joins the group of Triss later in the game.

3 Vivienne Is In Novigrad

During the Blood and Wine expansion, players have a chance to save Vivienne. If the players manage to do that just right, using the egg ritual, she is potentially saved. But that is not it, as she can be found again in Novigrad, near the docks. Players can visit the place to see her, after the expansion and look at her living her life with peace and happiness. Players can also talk to her, where she mentions something about going to visit Skellige as well. This is a really cool detail and a nod to the fact that every decision in-game actually has a game world outcome.

2 The Mystery Of Empty Bottles

One of the fan-favorite characters from The Witcher 2 is present in The Witcher 3, hidden near the docks of Novigrad. Odrin has his fair share of adventures, and he is known to be a very drunk fellow. Players have last helped the character in the second game, and now can go and see him lying down near the docks in the third game. A neat little detail here is the merchant next to the guy. He is selling empty bottles. But where are these bottles coming from? It seems like Odrin has something to do with it.

1 The Writings

Here's a neat little detail, present on Triss Merigold's house in Novigrad. As most fans know, that witches and sorcerers are loathed upon in the world of The Witcher 3. This is why if players walk about Triss Merigold's house, they can see symbols and writings on the house. From a faraway perspective, these things wouldn't mean much. But it has been revealed that these writings are curses and abuses by people who hate witches. This is a horrible detail, but one that fits the game world and its characters.
