Rumor: The Witcher 3 Switch Port in the Works

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Nintendo Switch rumor evidence

CD Projekt RED's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is considered by many to be one of the most significant games of this generation. In light of the game's incredibly high reputation, rumors are piling up that suggest The Witcher 3 will be heading to the Nintendo Switch.

Several months ago, a rumor had initial arisen that The Witcher 3 would be heading to Nintendo's hybrid system when a French retailer posted a product listing for The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch. The product listing had swiftly been removed but not before it was nonetheless noteworthy, given the Switch's growing library of popular third-party titles.

That rumor, among others, is becoming increasingly verified, as one user on Chinese social media website Weibo posted to the site claiming a source from a distributor revealed that The Witcher 3 would be coming to the Switch in September. Resetera user Jim_Cacher translated the text belonging to the post, which was originally in Chinese. The text reads, "[Breaking! Witcher 3 GOTY edition is coming to Switch in September.] According to a reliable source from distributor, Witcher 3 GOTY edition is coming to Switch in September. Chinese localization exclusive to Asia version."

Chinese retailer Taobao The Witcher 3 listings

To verify the validity of this claim, the Resetera user checked the website of Chinese retailer Taobao. As can be seen above, there are search appearances on Taobao to suggest that The Witcher 3 is indeed coming to the Nintendo Switch. Multiple product listings come up for the game with authentic-looking box art for a Chinese GOTY edition.

Of course, everything should be taken with a grain of salt because nothing has been confirmed yet. Plus, The Witcher 3's large world and level of graphical detail might be a bit demanding for the Switch. Unless it were to be streamed in the style of Resident Evil 7 on Switch in Japan, it might be a considerable challenge for the Switch to play the game at the level of the PS4, Xbox One, or PC.

If the rumors are true, fans of The Witcher might be interested to see how it performs on the go. Even if the game had to take a hit in terms of graphics and presentation, The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch would nonetheless be a notable addition to the console's expanding catalog.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
