Special-edition consoles get video game fans' minds racing with unique possibilities, such as a recent attempt to create a Cyberpunk 2077-themed Game Boy using Blender. More often than not, recent fan creations have focused on imagining what next-generation consoles would look like with skins based on upcoming and currently beloved games, such as Pixelstag's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Xbox Series X.

Based on the Polish novel series by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher series was notably popularized by CD Projekt Red's video game adaptations — and then by a Netflix series starring Henry Cavill. The Witcher 3 in particular has had a lasting effect, leading to multiple DLC releases and re-releases on various consoles. As a result, many different fan projects have emerged for the game in recent years, including Witcher stop-motion short films made with LEGO.

Pixelstag's Xbox Series X design based off The Witcher 3 is simple and elegant, retaining a scuffed black chassis with the claw mark "three" on the front that matches the color of the vent on top. The artist says The Witcher 3 is their favorite game, and they made three different color variations of the console design in red, blue, and yellow, with each color also touching the Xbox logo and buttons on the Series X controller.

Since releasing in 2015, the popular RPG has continued to be a sales juggernaut for CD Projekt Red. In May, it was announced that The Witcher 3 crossed a 50 million sales milestone, and not long before that, a CD Projekt Red financial report said the game sold as well in 2019 as it did during its launch year.

Though the game's base content as well as its DLC make for an incredibly solid title that justifies its wide-reaching sales potential, The Witcher 3's longevity also benefits from its modding community. Players have been able to accomplish a lot, including adding new mechanics to the game, overhauling its graphics, and replacing characters like Triss and Yennefer with their Netflix versions.

The success of the Witcher franchise has opened the door to CD Projekt Red's next big title, Cyberpunk 2077. While Cyberpunk has Witcher 3 easter eggs in it, the futuristic dystopian style promises to be a huge departure from the medieval-fantasy leanings of The Witcher, which may see the light of day again once the PS5 and Xbox Series X release given the developer's track record.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
