For a Witcher on the Path, having good armor that can withstand punishment and protect the user is paramount. In The Witcher 3, players will find dozens of armor sets scattered around the different areas of the game. In most cases, players will be able to find diagrams of different armor pieces and sets in The Witcher 3 that they can forge using the services of an armorer.RELATED: The Witcher 3: What The Legendary Manticore Armor Does (& How To Get It)Even if players lose their armor by some means, they will still be able to craft copies later. However, there are some armor sets that are extremely rare in the game. Players will find only one copy of some of these sets, per playthrough.

5 Toussaint Ducal Guard Captain's Armor

Players will first lay eyes on this set when they meet Damien de la Tour, captain of the ducal guard in Toussaint during the main quest of the Blood and Wine DLC. The armor has a very unique appearance, even among a prestigious outfit like the ducal guard, and is not readily available as the rest of the Toussaint armors. To acquire it, players must find the schematics for the armor spread about in different locations of the Duchy. The first few diagrams will be found in the ruins located south of Fort Astre.

There will be an Alp at the location which needs to be dispatched before players can start exploring the area to find the diagrams. One diagram can be found on the hanged man's body, located South of the Cockatrice Inn. The last diagram can be found in the north most Hanse base, at the very top. Once all diagrams have been acquired, Geralt can use the services of any of the blacksmiths found in Toussaint to forge the armor set.

4 Viper Armor Set

Witcher 3 Viper Armor Set Over The Shoulder In Conversation

The only way to acquire the Viper Armor set is during the Hearts of Stone main quest Open Sesame where Geralt takes part in an auction. Before the auction takes place, Geralt will be able to talk to some of the guests present at the occasion, one of whom will be Countess Mignole. The countess reveals that she has an interest in the Witchers' profession and is an avid collector of items regarding the trade, such as diagrams, armors, swords, and other items. Players can talk to her and convince her to sell some special items, which is where they will be able to get the Viper Armor Set Diagrams. It is very easy to miss the set if players don't talk to the Countess and choose not to select the appropriate dialog option. Players will also be able to learn some lore as well regarding one of the Witchers of the Wolf School.

The Countess also tasks players with a small errand of finding her earrings which she had apparently lost on the balcony. She does so to get Geralt away from the auction guests so she can talk to him in private. Mignole reveals herself as a past lover of Geralt's mentor and father figure, Vesemir. The two were in love back in the day but couldn't be together for long due to some factors. Vesemir was forced to leave Mignole but left a piece of his armor behind which she kept as a memento. She will ask about Vesemir, and depending on where players are in the story, Geralt will answer and inform the Countess.

3 Toussaint Relic Armor Set

This unique version of the Toussaint Armor Set is found in the Land of a Thousand Fables. Players will be led towards the location of the armor by following the wisp found in the area. The wisp will lead them to the body of a dead knight who entered the land in search of a princess but lost his life after being ambushed and killed by a group of pixies. This unique set visually resembles its counterpart found normally in the Toussaint, but stat wise it is counted as a Relic set, is stronger, and has more bonuses. The only way to acquire it is in the Land of a Thousand Fables and players can easily miss it if they overlook the wisp.

2 Hen Gaidth Armor Set

The Hen Gaidth Armor Set is found in the lair of the Unseen Elder during the events of the main quest should players choose to seek out the powerful elder vampire. To acquire it, players need to explore the caves where the Unseen Elder is found and loot everything they can. They will find torso, pants, boots, gloves, and a steel sword to go along with the armor. The armor bears a visual similarity to the Tesham Mutna set found earlier during the questline. However, the Hen Gaidth set is colored red whereas the other set is black in color. Players can get either the Toussaint Relic Armor Set or the Hen Gaidth Set during a single playthrough as the armors are acquired during opposing main quest paths.

1 DLC Armor Sets

The Temerian Armor Set, the Nilfgaardian Armor Set, and the Undvik Armor Set were added to the game via free downloadable content. Once installed, players can find and purchase the armor sets from in-game vendors along with matching saddle, blinders, and bags for Roach. The Temerian set can be bought from the vendor at Woesong Bridge in White Orchard while players can get the Nilfgaardian Set from the Quartermaster in Crow's Perch outside the Bloody Baron's mansion. To get the Undvik Set, players will need access to the Skellige region, and once there, find the Armorer at Kaer Trolde keep who'll have the items up for sale.

Players will find only one copy of these armor sets per playthrough and will not be able to craft more copies via a diagram. If they lose these sets by either misplacing them, selling them, or dismantling them, then the items will be lost for the remainder of the playthrough until players start a new game or a new game plus. In terms of stats, the Temerian and Nilfgaardian sets make for good early game sets that will carry players all the way up to the Novigrad section of the game. The Undvik set is a decent mid-game set that can carry players all the way to the late-game stages.
