The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a massive open-world game that, to the surprise of no one, has its fair share of problems. Considering the sheer size of the game, how it looks, the ridiculous amount of quests, and so many other things, it's actually a bit surprising how functional the game really is. Sure, the game has required a patch here and there, with a few focusing on improving the visuals, but compared to other open-world games, or just recent games at all, The Witcher 3 deserves to be praised for coming out on current hardware and running relatively well.

CD Projekt RED needs to be commended for addressing the issues and complaints sent their way since the game's launch as well, if only because of how quickly the fixes are coming. Case in point, just a week after learning about the game's less than ideal text size, and days after the discovery of The Witcher 3's XP bug, the developer has detailed the upcoming 1.04 (consoles) and 1.05 (PC) updates, which aim to eliminate those very issues, and more.

CD Projekt's Community Lead, Marcin Momot, discussed the fixes coming in the two patches, while also explaining that even more changes will be included whenever they do begin to roll out. So, if players out there are running into problems that aren't in the current list, all hope may not be lost, because there's still a chance it's being dealt with. The revealed list only contains the most requested changes so far, with many related to specific quests and the various momentum-killing bugs players could run into. No sign of a request to fix the money-making exploit, though that's not too surprising.

Outside of those, however, other fixes include:

  • Geralt will not longer interact with candles near chests and other interactive elements.
  • Significantly Enlarged GUI and HUD elements (including fonts) on consoles and slightly on PC.
  • Improved camera smoothness
  • Performance improvements during some cutscenes.
  • Fixed case where game was crashing on loading a save in certain situations

Even if certain changes don't come with the upcoming patch, expect it to come with the next one. As we've said before, this studio is pretty good at listening to its community, then doing what they can as soon as possible.

Release dates for the patches haven't been given yet, but in a thread yesterday, Momot stated that the patch 1.05 for PC should release by Wednesday, while console patch 1.04 should come shortly afterwards. This is either just in time or not soon enough, depending on how engaged in Geralt's final adventure players are. Needless to say, if some do continue to play the game before the updates, remember to save at every opportunity, because there's nothing worse that losing progress or getting a corrupted save file.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Consider checking out our "Things we wish we knew" guide, as it could be incredibly useful regardless of how many hours you've already put into the game.
