After going gold less than a month ago, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is in its home stretch as far a development is concerned. And with less than a week to go before the latest title in the Witcher series is released to hordes of adoring fans, CD Projekt Red is still hard at work, focusing on delivering as perfect a product as possible.
According to several reviews of the PlayStation 4 version of the game, performance seemed to be one of the critics’ major points of contention with Witcher 3, as the visuals regularly dropped below 30 frames-per-second, degrading the lush landscapes and slowing play-time to a crawl. Fortunately, CD Projekt Red‘s community coordinator, Marcin Momot, assured fans that the problem will be rectified on day one for PS4 copies with a downloadable patch.
Replying to a concerned fan of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Twitter after the user asked about whether or not the company planned to fix the problem, Momot stated, “Yes. We’ve already addressed this issue. Framerate will be better once we official[ly] launch the game.” Of course, this is good news for PlayStation 4 owners, but questions remain over how effective the update will be, since no concrete details about the patch were mentioned. Plus, one can only speculate how the Witcher 3 Xbox One gameplay compares.
Although the complete specs on the PS4 patch are unclear, it’s good to see CD Projekt Red reach out to its supporters and remain proactive in improving its games. It’s obvious the company respects its fanbase, especially since it was their unbridled adulation for the Witcher series that put the once-fledgling developer on the map.
On top of CD Projekt Red’s casual correspondence with game enthusiasts, it’s also cool to see the Poland-based studio give free DLC packages to its devotees. Seeing that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is already jam-packed with impressive features such as fierce RPG combat riddled with monsters and no open world load times, giving out complimentary content like that is extremely generous.
With social media’s constant inundation of information, remaining relevant in the gaming industry is harder than ever. Popular franchises come and go, so it’s important to keep a positive rapport up with the public to stay successful. CD Projekt Red already has the ability to stay at the forefront of people’s minds by producing quality titles like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but it’s subtle, unshowy PR moves like their community coordinator’s simple Tweet to keep a fan in the loop that will keep game developers thriving for years to come.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is scheduled for release on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
