CD Projekt Red has been working on an updated next-gen version of The Witcher 3 for a while now, but today they finally announced the updated version of the game will be coming soon. The Witcher 3 is considered one of the best video games of all time, and fans have been eager to see how the game would perform if given a modern overhaul for both PS5 and Xbox Series X. PC gamers have been using mods for years to upgrade the aging game's visuals and performance, yet console gamers have been stuck with a version of the game that is nearly a decade old.The update has been delayed multiple times, and CD Projekt Red was originally to have the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 out by now. It was reported that during a recent earnings call, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski stated the game was "still on track" for a 2022 release. Players can invest countless hours in The Witcher 3's RPG mechanics, adding to the title's allure for gamers over multiple platforms.RELATED: Rumor: Retailer Leak May Reveal Witcher 3 Next Gen Release DateDuring the recent earnings call, Kicinski commented that the upgraded version of the game was on track for a fourth-quarter 2022 release. In a single-word social media post, CD Projekt Red simply said, "soon" using The Witcher's official social media account. Gamers have had a glimpse of the kind of visual fidelity that modern hardware can produce in the game when a recent video showed The Witcher 3 running over 100 mods on the Nvidia RTX 4090.

It's likely the game will arrive sometime between now and late December 2022. Since the end of the year is rapidly approaching, it's likely CD Projekt Red will have more to share in the near future. The developer has already confirmed that owners of the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PS4 and Xbox One won't have to pay any additional money for the upgraded version. The same next-gen upgrade will be rolling out for PC players as well. While visuals are sure to be a major focus of the update, combat may also be improved, possibly including The Witcher series' celebrated dismemberment system.

The update will improve gameplay and graphics on all next-gen systems but won't offer any changes for the Nintendo Switch version of the game. For gamers who have yet to experience The Witcher 3 or those hungry to again immerse themselves in its detailed world, this new upgrade offers the perfect excuse to do so. One of the game's strongest attributes is the sheer volume of optional side quests available in The Witcher 3, and varied characters full of surprising depth.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions expected to launch later this year.
