CD Projekt Red has finally confirmed exactly when fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt can play the game's next-gen update. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt earned rave reviews when it first launched in 2015, and it is generally considered one of the best games ever made. Significantly more powerful video game consoles and gaming PCs have been made available in the seven years since The Witcher 3 first launched, though, and the next-gen update should help it take full advantage of the latest hardware.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update was first announced in 2020, and so fans of the franchise have been waiting quite a long time to get their hands on it. When The Witcher 3 next-gen update launches, it will improve the game's performance and even add some new content based on the Netflix series. Those that already own The Witcher 3 can upgrade to the next-gen version completely free of charge.

Witcher fans have a lot more to look forward to besides The Witcher 3 next-gen update. CD Projekt Red recently confirmed multiple Witcher games are in development, with one an original game by Molasses Flood and another a remake of the first Witcher game. More information on those projects are unavailable at the time of this writing, but they are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to new Witcher content that's on the way.

CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that The Witcher 4 is in development using Unreal Engine 5, and beyond that, it will be the start of a brand-new Witcher saga. Needless to say, Witcher video game fans have a bright future ahead of them, and they should have no shortage of games to play in the years ahead.

Fans of The Witcher Netflix series may not be quite as happy as Witcher video game fans, though. It was recently announced that The Witcher Netflix series is recasting Geralt of Rivia, trading Henry Cavill for Liam Hemsworth. Cavill's performance as Geralt has consistently been one of the most popular aspects of the show, so fans are understandably upset to see Cavill go.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions launching on December 14.
