The Witcher 3 remains one of the most beloved game releases of the past decade. And despite being four years old now, it's still a great game to revisit. It may even be better than remembered, thanks to a wave of high-quality mods. One new mod that's a perfect example of improvement through addition is Ridog8 and Moahofer30's "Music Overhaul Project." Instead of replacing The Witcher 3's already excellent music, the mod adds 16 classic tracks from the prior Witcher games.

The Music Overhaul Project is designed to preserve the original music of The Witcher 3 while also expanding the game's music library so there's less repetition. The way it does this is by ensuring that the first time a player enters a new area, the original song for that area will play. After that, additional music chosen specifically for that area will also play. For example, the new track for Kaer Morhen begins with The Witcher 3's version and then cycles into the original Witcher's song for Kaer Morhen.

In all, the Music Overhaul Project adds 16 total songs to The Witcher 3 - 8 from the mod's initial release and 8 more were added in a recent update. Songs that have been added include The Witcher's "River of Life," "Tavern On the End of the World," and "Peaceful Moments," as well as The Witcher 2's "A Watering Hold In the Harbor," "A Nearly Peaceful Place," and "Vergen By Night." No area in The Witcher 3 has more than 1-2 additional songs.

As for why Moahofer30 decided to make the mod for The Witcher 3, they explained that music can "change the way you are experiencing a [game] tremendously." Adding music from The Witcher 1 and 2 not only helped make new playthroughs more interesting but also more emotionally compelling for Moahofer30. Given the dramatic events spread throughout The Witcher franchise, it's easy to understand how each game's music could rekindle those emotional moments in new ways.

The Music Overhaul Project for The Witcher 3 is available to download and install right now, but requires a Nexus Mods account. Instructions for how to set up the mod can be found on the mod's official page. Alternatively, for those who may not have the time to dive into another run of The Witcher 3, all of the mod's music files are available in YouTube form, too. These YouTube music videos are also available on the mod's official page. at Nexus Mods.
