Geralt may be the only official protagonist in The Witcher 3, but this mod allows players to take on the role of four different female characters from the RPG.

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is sure to be at the very top of many Game of the Year lists for 2015. The sprawling open world and compelling narrative have made the RPG an instant classic with gamers. Despite the glowing praise from critics and gamers alike, there are still some missing features that could make The Witcher 3 even better. Thanks to the dedicated modding community, the PC game already has a few options available to improve the experience.

When Fallout 4 took the stage at E3 and revealed that players would be able to create a custom protagonist of either sex, the crowd went wild. Offering that kind of customization doesn't work for every game and the narrative of The Witcher 3 relies on players sticking with Geralt and his story. Despite that limitation, one modder has added a new option for players who would prefer to play as a female version of Geralt... Kind of.

The new fanmade mod, created by ParKan allows players to explore the open world as four characters that are not Geralt. The modification adds Triss, Yennefer, Shani, and Ciri as playable options.

As gamers who are familiar with The Witcher 3 might expect, it would take a ton of work to completely customize the game for this kind of massive change. Although players are able to play as four different female characters, all of the animations for combat and cutscenes are the ones created for Geralt. That shouldn't ruin the immersion too much, but Geralt's voice is still in place, so that will probably do it... Without any mod support from CD Projekt Red, this might be the best that fans can hope for.

Despite the minor problems, it's still a very cool mod. In addition to this creation, ParKan also created a mod that allows players to bring permanent companions along for the adventure. The companion mod adds five non-playable ally options to follow your character around and help them out in combat.

Although the most impressive mods of 2015 have definitely been a part of Fallout 4, it's exciting to see that The Witcher 3's community is still active and evolving, despite the lack of support. The game's gigantic world is full of possibilities and we look forward to seeing what else the creative PC community has in store for it.

Have you tried ParKan's mods yet? Does this one seem cool enough to download? Let us know in the comments.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Mod. ParKan's mod is only available for the PC version of the game.
