A new quest to The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion has been added through a mod that continues Orianna's story. Nikich340's "A Night to Remember" mod has reached nearly 4000 unique downloads and nearly 40,000 views since its release on April 4th.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has received critical acclaim since its 2015 debut and its expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine matched the main game's positive reception. Blood and Wine revolves around Geralt of Rivia's travels in Toussaint, an area untouched by war, and his hunt for the monster responsible for the deaths of two knights.

This mod picks up right after the events of the original expansion and boasts characters new and old, according to the mod summary page. Modder nikich340 has also added new writing and cutscenes as well as new voice acting and assets for players to interact with and experience through this mod. Players need to finish the main arc of Blood and Wine before playing this mod and the modder suggests that they attain level 50 before taking on this challenge. For important context, players should also make sure to either complete or familiarize themselves with the quest "Blood Simple" from Blood and Wine.

Some Witcher fans may recognize the name of this mod from a cinematic trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt back in 2015. This trailer, of the same name, sees Geralt face off against a bruxa, a powerful type of vampire, in a fierce battle in a dilapidated barn. It seems likely that this mod is a tribute to this very trailer and will allow players a chance to live through this moment while working their way through this new quest.

By dropping players back into the world they loved, mods can breathe new life into games and it seems like this one does just that. The trailer, "A Night to Remember," was an impressive introduction to the world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and if this mod can match that excitement then it will be a success. Bringing players into this gritty moment while simultaneously continuing Blood and Wine's arc seems like an obvious win.

But it all hinges on the quality of the mod and the new writing and features. Expanding such a beloved universe comes with a higher degree of scrutiny and new writing and voice acting from someone outside of the CD Projekt Red developer team needs to get close to that high bar. Either way, though, it is good to see a community continue to enjoy the universe the game created.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
