It has one of the highest damage outputs in the silver sword category in The Witcher 3 and is effective against any monsters the players will use it against. Getting the sword needs some patience and planning, but the rewards are well worth the wait once you've followed these steps to achieve it.

Updated on August 13th, 2021 by Talha Bin Rizwan: The Harpy Relic Silver Sword is counted among the strongest weapons in The Witcher 3. The sword boasts respectable base damage and has at least a 10% chance of causing bleeding damage to the enemy. In addition to that, the sword also has 3 slots for runes allowing players to customize its effects as they see fit.

Players can find the Harpy sword as random loot from monsters and inside lootable treasures, or they can find a diagram for the sword and get it crafted by a Journeyman Blacksmith. The sword is found early on in the game, but players will need to be at least 37 or higher to actually use it. However, it is acquired and is usable, it can easily carry players throughout the entirety of the vanilla game along with the 2 DLCs.

6 Primary Location For The Sword

Main Location for the Harpy Sword Diagram

Players can find the diagram for the Harpy sword early on in the game. Once players get access to the Bloody Baron's compound in Velen, head east to a bandit camp. This camp is found just a few meters northeast of Lindenvale, allowing players to fast travel and take a short walk to the location. Players will find the diagram on top of the wooden tower. Once the bandits are dispatched, they can loot the chest for the diagram. In some cases, players may not find the diagram in the chest. Players must then leave the area for the time being without looting the chest, and come back and check at a later time.

5 Secondary Location For The Sword

An Alternate Location for the Harpy Sword Diagram

In some rare instances, the Harpy sword diagram can be also be found South of White Orchard. Once at the location, players will need to walk along the river banks until they reach a Guarded Treasure site with a few drowners present. Drowners are an easy enemy to take care of but can be challenging in larger numbers.

Once they are dealt with, players will need to loot the chest present at the location, where they will find the diagram. Players can also loot the Drowner bodies for some Drowner Tongues, which they can use to make Monster Saliva, a required component for crafting the sword.

How To Defeat Drowners

Drowners from the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Drowners are among the most common enemies that players will come across on their journey during the Witcher 3. They are typically found around and inside bodies of water. They are quite easy to dispatch and players will not need more than their silver swords to deal with them. However, in large groups, they can be a threat and quickly drain players' health bars. To give them an extra edge, players can use Necrophage Oil to enhance the damage on their swords. Alternatively, they can use Igni against them.

Alternate Location:

One of the possible locations for the diagram for the sword is the elven ruins encountered during the main quest with Keira Metz, titled “Wandering In The Dark”. To get to it players must first get to the large room in the cave. Once there, they must then turn right and drop down from the ledge, where they will locate a chest. The diagram can be inside the chest which players can simply loot. Players must keep in mind that the diagram may not always be there. They can try reloading an earlier save in hopes the diagram shows up. Or they can try the other locations where the sword is known to be found.

Possible Location For The Diagram

Another possible location for the Harpy sword diagram can be encountered during the “Towerful of Mice” side quests. When players get access to the tower, they must make their way to the top where the prisoners were typically held. Once there, players must exit and go to the far side of the ledge where a chest can be found. The diagram will be inside the chest. This is one of the more likely places to find the diagram for the Harpy relic silver sword.

All of the materials needed for crafting the Harpy sword are easy to obtain. Players will need:

  • 1 x Leather Scraps.
  • 2 x Dimeritium Ingots.
  • 1 x Ruby.
  • 2 x Monster Saliva.

Leather Scraps are easily found as random loot during different missions and can also be bought from different vendors. The Ruby is also easily acquired from numerous vendors in-game, but is a bit uncommon as random loot. Players can either buy Dimeritium Ingots from blacksmiths or they can craft an ingot from 2 x Dimeritium Ore. Monster Saliva is crafted from various monster parts that players get as loot. Players can easily craft it from Drowner Tongues.

3 Finding A Blacksmith

Players will need the services of a Journeyman Blacksmith to forge the Harpy Silver Sword. There are many blacksmiths in-game that can craft the sword for the player. Journeyman Blacksmiths can be found at the following locations:

  • The Novigrad Fish Market
  • Oxenfurt
  • Skellige (two are present here)
  • Kaer Muire
  • Kaer Trolde citadel

Players can call upon any of the blacksmiths to forge the sword for them.

2 Alternate Option For A Blacksmith

Geralt outside Hattori's shop

Players can get the sword forged by a Journeyman Blacksmith and beyond with no difference in performance and damage output. However, if players want to kill two birds with one stone, they can use a Master level Blacksmith named Eibhear Hattori, who can be found in Glory Lane in Novigrad. Unlike most smiths, players will need to complete his side quest, "Of Swords And Dumplings", before they can gain access to his services.

The quest is short and should take only an hour at most to complete. Afterward, players will have access to the services of a Master Blacksmith and get a relic steel sword for free, called "Blade From The Bits".

Completing Hattori's Quest

When players talk to Hattori about hiring his services as a blacksmith, he will explain that he is being harassed by a fellow competitor who is backed by Cleaver. He will ask players to negotiate with the King of Beggars' men and get some supplies for him. Players can attempt to negotiate for a discount, or pay the full price. In any case, Cleaver's men will show up, which players will have to deal with.

Hattori then tasks players will finding a bodyguard for him and suggest a candidate. Players can find Sukrus at The Golden Sturgeon, and after a brief fistfight, will be tasked with a new objective. They will need to convince his brother-in-law to forgive his debts. Players can talk to him or use force, but in any case, the objective is completed.

They will then need to steal Hattori's competitor's supplies. Players can plan on how to do this with Sukrus, and will be ambushed by bandits as they leave with the supplies. Once they are dealt with, Hattori will be free to make new swords.
